"Alianza," the Spanish word for alliance, is represented here through the high-energy blending of Latin and swing styles. The main melody seamlessly integrates the two styles. There is a written-out jazz solo for trumpet 2 and every section of the band is featured at some point. The lead trumpet range is to written A above the staff. Optional parts included for flute, horn in F, baritone/tenor sax, tuba and percussion. A refreshing challenge! Highly recommended! 10049724 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . .MA 52.00 H Armando's Rhumba—Chick Corea/arr. Mike Tomaro. From Chick Corea's My Spanish Heart album, this tune is not really a "rhumba," but rather an extremely energetic samba. This chart features dynamic and challenging passages for the entire ensemble and also ample room for soloists. Nice chart! 10283046 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . .MA 60.00 H Black Orpheus—Luiz Bonfa/arr. Eric Richards. Here's a super high-energy Latin samba arranged by Eric Richards that is the perfect opener or closer for any performance. There are solo opportunities for tenor sax, baritone sax, 2nd trombone and drums. This is a powerhouse chart that features tons of cookin' rhythm, a melody that floats above great counterpoint and a magnificent trumpet section soli that really brightens things up. Exciting festival chart! 10011985 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . A 62.00 H Blue Rondo a la Turk—Dave Brubeck/arr. Kris Berg. The essence of the original is captured here with this updated version of Dave Brubeck's classic tour de force in a big-band setting! The meter alternates from a 9/8 straight Afro-Cuban feel to a more relaxed 12/8 swing style, and they blend perfectly with Brubeck's rhythmic patterns. There's solo space for alto 1, trumpet 2 and drums, and lead trumpet goes up to written C above the staff. A big ensemble introduction leads into the familiar and hip bass and piano line followed by the melody stated by alto, tenor, trumpet, and trombone. This chart also features great section and full ensemble parts throughout, a huge shout chorus, and the lead trumpet goes to written high D. Solo space is available for alto, tenor, trumpet, and drums. This extended arrangement is a great big band chart on a great Cedar Walton jazz classic. As the title implies, this Michael Mossman original captures a Bolivian style utilizing various layers of sound and shifting moods. Trombones are featured at first, but every section of the ensemble gets a workout on this stunning piece. A stop-time section launches the tenor sax solo, and an open percussion feature sets up the powerful finish with the entire ensemble. 11105110 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . A 60.00 H The Cannonball Run—Gordon Goodwin. Here's the full big-band version of Gordon Goodwin's The Cannonball Run! It's a high-energy Latin/pop cooker that moves along at a pretty good clip, around 240 bpm. The saxophone lead is soprano instead of alto, the lead trumpet range is written to high F, and there's solo space for all saxes, trumpet 4, and trombones 1 and 2. A hot sax section soli and some counterpoint round out this cannonball. Very hot stuff! 10513952 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . A 72.00 H Caravan—Duke Ellington/arr. John Wasson. Recently featured in the motion picture "Whiplash," this barnburner by outstanding arranger John Wasson is pure Latin fire from start to finish! This chart will have your students begging to practice. With the opportunity for an extended alto sax solo, this Rolls Royce of an arrangement is definitely top-notch! 2402725 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . .MA 60.00 Caribbean Fire Dance—Joe Henderson/arr. John Fedchock. This fiery arrangement of Caribbean Fire Dance maintains a smoldering intensity during even its more subdued moments. There's ample solo space for tenor sax, trumpet, trombone, and drums. The ensemble shout serves as one of the high points of the chart. The extended conclusion begins with the ensemble gradually building in intensity and volume around a drum solo. Then it's full power for its final fanfare, complete with some optional trumpet high-note heroics. Soprano sax lead for the sax section. Highly recommended! 10883257 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . A 75.00 Cecilia—Paul Simon/arr. Mathew Montgomery. Take a classic Paul Simon melody, add an energetic samba style, an opening alto sax melody solo, then gradually layer in more voices, and you have a chart that is well on the way to be thrilling! All players are involved before the saxes are featured in a very cool a cappella soli, plus an alto soloist can really stretch out in an extended solo section. Gordon Goodwin presents a funky Latin/ pop original targeted at the skilled high school level. As with all Goodwin charts, it's very exciting and drives from beginning to end. It's played around 176 bpm with the lead trumpet range going to written high C. Sample solos are included for all instruments and the Latin percussion part includes bongos, congas, cowbell and shaker. In addition, optional parts are included for expanded instrumentations. If you want excitement, this chart is for you. It's all very hip and highly recommended! 10997204 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . .MA 52.00 Cover Drive—Lachlan Davidson. This potent chart is an electric combination of a 12/8 shuffle and an Afro/Cuban 12/8 groove. The groove drives at all times and there's plenty of action for everyone. A big guitar solo allows for some shedding followed by more dynamic ensemble shouts. Then, all goes quiet as the band builds toward an open solo section. The solos can feature one to four players improvising as one, or together in combinations of two, three, or four. After the solos, the ensemble roars to a brief drum solo and returns to the "A" material and a powerful ending. This will be the highlight of any concert set or a dynamic closer! 10910529 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . .MA 55.00 Cubauza!—Michael Philip Mossman. This exciting Afro-Cuban composition is the opening cut from the 1993 album 944 Columbus, the final recoding by Mario Bauza, one of the most influential figures in the development of Latin jazz. The title comes from combining the words "Cuban" and "Bauza" and features a bebop influence interpreted by the Afro-Cuban rhythm section. This jazz standard composed by Dave Brubeck came to notoriety on the landmark 1957 Miles Davis/Gil Evans collaboration "Miles Ahead."
