Trumpet and alto sax carry the melody at first before passing it off to the brass with the saxophones cleverly inserting punctuations. The saxes take the melody the third time around while the brass sections offer incisive interjections. An open solo section follows which features subtle backgrounds that enhance the proceedings without getting in the way. Anyone can improvise, and suggested solos are included for alto sax, tenor sax, trumpet, and trombone. A swinging ensemble follows the solos, starting at a simmer and gradually heating up to an exciting full- ensemble shout chorus. All this, and it's playable with optional reduced instrumentation. This one is highly recommended! 11002323 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .50.00 Don't Let Up—Erik Sherburne. As the title suggests, Don't Let Up, doesn't let up. A groovin' shuffle bass line starts it off and then the band kicks it and it's show time! Each section gets its moment in the spotlight followed by a solo section with straight-ahead blues changes that can be opened up to feature individual players. A sample solo is scored in the alto sax 1 part with chord changes in all parts. A great opener to get the crowd going! Also published in a flexible instrumentation small group format, Pepper number 10882366. 10882378 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .50.00 4 Easy Does It—Erik Sherburne. With strong support from the ensemble, the solo, with a slightly mysterious air, is entirely written and features an optional improvisation section. As an extra added attraction, the solo ends the chart with a brief cadenza showing off the soloist's bravura. This is a great way to add a quieter selection to any concert program. This is also available as a flexible instrumentation small group chart (Pepper number 10999502). Very nice, indeed! 10999492 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .50.00 Fancy Pants—Sammy Nestico.
