A smokin', rock 'n rollin' romp, Killer on the Keys features your keyboard player a la Jerry Lee Lewis, the "Killer" himself. All the riffs and solos are completely written out, so that your budding keyboardist will feel right at home with the bluesy rock 'n roll shuffle style. Although the keys are featured, this full-sounding arrangement has plenty of licks for the rest of the band, including a section for written or improvised solos. Hammering the ivories, your soloist, band, and audience will find this is a "killer" of a tune! Highly recommended! 10071408 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .48.00 4 Light and Easy—Carl Strommen. Keep it "light and easy" with this great chart by master composer Carl Strommen. There's lots of room for improvisation with the open solo section, or use the suggested written solos for less experienced musicians. Set at around 162 bpm, it's written for full ensemble yet scored to sound great with optional limited instrumentation. Here's a wonderful opportunity to explore the lighter side of swing. Midnight Snack is a very clever chart for younger jazz bands that features some cool band sound effects. It's an easy swinger played around 132 bpm with written solos cued for all saxes and trumpets. A slinky opening features the drummer on cymbals trading phrases with the ensemble and then leading to a more traditional swing style. The trumpet 1 range is to E-flat top space and optional parts are included for flute, clarinet and vibes. There are also options for reduced instrumentations. A sure hit for every performance. Your piano player will get some well-deserved attention in this familiar Bobby Timmons' chart. The saxes grab the melody from the piano, and everyone gets in on the action for some real nice moments in the chorus. Written solos are included for piano, tenor and/or trumpet. Drum features have always been a big crowd pleaser in the jazz idiom. This outstanding tribute to the original big band drum star, Gene Krupa, features a short, written trumpet solo with plunger, but this exceptional chart is primarily a drum feature with solid big band ensemble sections to drive it along. Full of audience appeal, it's a big band extravaganza set in the style of the famous Krupa swing tunes of yesteryear. An optional flute part is included and the written ranges are: Trumpet 1 to A; Trombone to G; Alto Sax to E. 10311507 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .47.00 The Mudbug Strut—Paul Baker. A New Orleans street parade comes to life with this chart! A 2nd line snare drum beat drives the Dixie-based ensemble, complete with tailgate trombone. There are written solos for trombone, alto sax, plunger trumpet, and bass, and tuba may be substituted for the bass for even more authenticity. An additional clarinet part is included as well. The definitive recording of this jazz classic is by Bill Evans, with other notable recordings by Cannonball Adderley and Joe Henderson. Paul Murtha's arrangement for developing groups features a Latin style on the head then switches to swing on the bridge. This really nice chart also includes very effective writing for all sections of the band as well as written or improvised solo space for alto sax. Highly recommended! 10072801 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .45.00 Nostalgia in Times Square—Charles Mingus/ arr. Victor Lopez. Don't miss this jazz standard composed by the legendary Mingus! Swinging at around 144 bpm, this chart delivers with outstanding soli passages as well as superb written or improvised solos for tenor and trumpet. The brass ranges are accessible, there are nice full ensemble sections along with highly effective interludes, and there are optional wind parts for augmented instrumentations. John Berry. Here's a perfect touch of swing era nostalgia with this signature tune from the Glenn Miller Orchestra. All the elements of the original are here in this more accessible version including the famous sax melody, written trumpet and alto solos and, of course, full band vocals. One of the favorites performed by the Duke Ellington Orchestra, Perdido is a happy and upbeat riff tune set in a swing style. This great sounding chart in the six-horn format (3 saxes, 2 trumpets, trombone and rhythm section) features variety in scoring, an open solo section, and a terrific shout chorus for the entire ensemble. Additional optional parts are included for alto, tenor and trombone. Red Line Shuffle is a medium swing/shuffle chart perfect for developing bands as played around 140 bpm. The sassy melody is first presented by the saxes, then the trumpets. With playable rhythms and ranges based in the B-flat blues, this is a great tune to open or close any concert. The solo section has space for any instrument to play an improvised solo, or they can use the written solo or B-flat blues scale provided. After the solo section there's nice dynamic contrasts as the band swings softer and softer, leading to a big finish. Also featured are a nice sax section soli, an open solo section on everybody's favorite Bb blues changes, and a break strain. Using the traditional English folk song as a basis, Paul Murtha found a creative treatment as an up-tempo jazz waltz! With a natural flowing groove, this swinging chart opens with a trio of alto, trumpet and trombone on the main theme. There's also great scoring for the entire ensemble along with suggested or improvised solos for the three featured players. Adapted from the version he penned for The Count Basie Orchestra, Sammy Nestico brings the signature style and familiar strains to this fabulous version for developing bands. The solo spots for piano are completely notated and the tutti writing for full ensemble is the best there is! 10052540 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .45.00 H Sing, Sing, Sing—Louie Prima/arr. Victor Lopez. Yep, this is the Sing, Sing, Sing you know and love, made famous by Gene Krupa and the Benny Goodman Orchestra, only arranged for young players by Victor Lopez. The classic drum solo that can be opened up for as much excitement as the crowd can stand, along with a written-out tenor solo, reasonable brass ranges and lots of meaty ensembles keep this great chart exciting. It will also sound full with reduced instrumentation or with the optional, non-jazz band parts. It's still a showstopper! Then this cookin' blues shuffle chart is just what you need! The guitar helper part includes both a written solo and a tablature version of the same solo. There's also an optional open solo section that can be opened up for as many players as desired. Solid background figures by the ensemble give this a great big sound that will make your budding B.B. Although this piece is not usually associated with jazz bands, this arrangement works so well it can appropriately be included in any jazz concert. It's also invaluable to have in the files for those "emergency" situations where a jazz group is called upon to perform our National Anthem. It includes just the right elements to give it a jazz flavor, yet maintains the dignity and reverence of the original. While it is harmonically jazzy, it is rhythmically traditional and can serve as accompaniment for audience singing. It is also playable with reduced instrumentation. If your jazz ensemble plays for basketball games, this is perfect. A wise investment for all jazz programs!
