Skillful scoring for young players is evident throughout complete with some nice dynamic nuances. The short, written solo section can be played by a trumpet soloist, or the entire section. This iconic hit from the great James Brown should be a staple in every jazz band's library! With funky horn licks and a driving groove in the rhythm section, this tune gets off to a rousing start. The solo section features a written or adlibbed alto sax solo or improvised solos for tenor sax, trumpet or trombone. Optional parts are included for expanded instrumentation. Move 'n' Groove pays tribute to Lee Morgan's Sidewinder with its solid rock foundation alternating with half-time funk styles. Featuring a feel-good chord progression and biting horn licks, it just gets down and grooves, especially after the solo section. The solos are open for anyone, with written solo sheets in all keys provided. Near the end, the drummer has fills trading with the ensemble and later a solo section. Rick Stitzel. This acclaimed hit from 1972 was the final #1 hit from The Temptations. Pipeline Howl is a '60s surf rock original that takes us back to the time of the Beach Boys, Surfin' Surfaris and a host of hot '60s groups. Developing players will enjoy the driving rock style and the vintage drum licks, while audiences will hear the full ensemble having fun with this one. There's also written or improvised solo space for tenor sax and optional parts are included for flute, clarinet, horn in F and tuba. Pure fun! 10998160 Jazz Ensemble. . . . . . . . . . . . . . E 72.00 4 Red Line Shuffle—Mike Collins-Dowden. Red Line Shuffle is a medium swing/shuffle chart perfect for developing bands as played around 140 bpm. The sassy melody is first presented by the saxes, then the trumpets. With playable rhythms and ranges based in the B-flat blues, this is a great tune to open or close any concert. The solo section has space for any instrument to play an improvised solo, or they can use the written solo or B-flat blues scale provided. After the solo section there's nice dynamic contrasts as the band swings softer and softer, leading to a big finish. Slim Chickens is a melodic funk chart over a nice progression and it's accessible for developing groups with the lead trumpet range going to written G top staff. There are written suggested solos for tenor sax 1 and trombone 1 with very cool backgrounds supporting the soloists. It cooks at around 148 bpm with some nice bari sax licks, a sax soli, and full-sounding ensemble sections. Nothing slim here, it's a great chart, and it's highly recommended! 10997196 Jazz Ensemble. . . . . . . . . . . . . . M 48.00 4 What a Wonderful World—Douglas & Weiss/ arr. Alan Baylock. Alan Baylock sets this wonderful tune in a sultry 12/8 groove played at about 72 bpm, making it feel lazy and relaxed. There are no solos, just sweet ensemble writing all the way. The lead trumpet range is to A above the staff and optional parts are included for expanded instrumentations.
