There were many characters at the foot of the cross that day:
Mary, His mother; John, His beloved disciple; the angry crowd;
and the professional executioners.
One of those paid to carry out the sentence was overwhelmed at
the innocence of this man. He knew there was something different
about Him, something…divine.
The soldier heard the crowd shout their taunt, "Save yourself!" -
but in his heart he was hoping Jesus would ignore them.
