CAROL: Goodness, these roads are getting pretty slick. Do you think we should pull over? NICK: Maybe so. Can you check the GPS and see how far it is to the nearest hotel? CAROL: Sure. MARIA: Those snowfl akes are HUGE! JOEY: All this snow makes it feel even more like Christmas! CAROL: Well, all this snow also means we might not make it to Grandma's tonight. JOEY: What? No, Mom, that is not an option. MARIA: Yeah, we just HAVE to get to Grandma's tonight. It won't be Christmas if we aren't there when we wake up in the morning. NICK: Oh, it'll be Christmas, but it might not be the Christmas you were expecting. Any sign of a hotel soon, Carol? CAROL: No, not for quite a while. NICK: Great. CAROL: Wait a minute. Look there! (points ahead and off to the side of "the road") Do you see that sign? JOEY: I see it! It says "Hotel Noel." MARIA: Oh, I really don't want to stay at a hotel on Christmas Eve! NICK: I don't think we have a choice, kids. It just isn't safe to keep going tonight. And it seems pretty perfect that we'd fi nd a place called Hotel Noel, don't you think? CAROL: It's strange, though. It doesn't show up anywhere on this GPS map. Oh, well. It's here! And thank goodness! (They "pull the car over" and get out. Stage left is set up as a hotel lobby with a front desk and sitting area. Could have a fi replace, phone, etc. There are no signs of Christmas anywhere, no decor. The family walks into the hotel lobby and rings the bell on the front desk. ANGELA pops up from behind the counter.) ANGELA: Merry Christmas and welcome to Hotel Noel! NICK: Thank you. Boy are we glad we came upon your hotel. That storm is getting pretty bad out there! ANGELA: (very excitedly) We're so glad you're here! Hotel Noel is a pretty special place! We'll take good care of you. Hotel Noel
