Out of the Dark—Jim Papoulis. Middle school
can be a difficult time in the life of a student, often
filled with feelings of inadequacy and self-doubt.
The composer explored this topic with middle
school students in a songwriting workshop, and
the students discovered that they are not alone
with their feelings of self-doubt; that even adults
struggle with these feelings. These students also
discovered that they have the ability to be strong
and find inspiration from within. The music reflects
these moments of discovery with rhythmic forces.
There is a vulnerable honesty in this music, an
honesty that will resonate with young people.

Pie Jesu—Mary Lynn Lightfoot. The traditional
Latin text is set to a haunting melody in this
reverent, deeply moving choral work. Composed in
memory of the children who perished in the 1995
Oklahoma City bombing, it is easily singable by

or church choirs. An excellent pronunciation
guide/translation is included. At the close of the
work, a whispered, murmured chant on "Dona Eis
Requiem" echoes behind the vocal parts, creating
