Final 77 MS. KING: (interrupting) I hate to interrupt this little celebration. MS. MAPLE: Ma'am, the doors actually won't be opening for another ten minutes. But, if you . . . MS. KING: (gleeful) I've been watching you for weeks, with these packages coming in and out. But I needed more. I needed real proof. MS. MAPLE:I'm afraid I don't understand. MS. KING: (grandly) Of course, you don't. Allow me to introduce myself. I'm Ms. Harriet King, and this is my building. (pulling out a contract) What you seem to have overlooked is that on page 147, section 2, paragraph 3 of the rental agreement it states that there is to be no celebrating of Christmas on the premises. MS. MAPLE:Why, no, I was not aware of that. MS. KING: Always read the fine print, dear. L: I can fix this right here! (He pulls a flashlight out of his pocket and points it at Ms. King.) I'll use my Memory Eraser on her, and she'll forget all about not liking Christmas! (He presses the button and the flashlight turns on. Nothing, of course, happens to Ms. King.) MS. KING: How cute. It's a flashlight. (Pulls the Memory Eraser from her purse) Were you looking for this? You left it in the lounge. Now, where were we? Oh, yes. You are in violation of the contract and are to be evicted . . . effective immediately. (Kids react—What? Oh, no!) L: But what about the gifts? JOSIAH: What about the Nativity? kid 1: What about the snacks? Ms Maple: Surely you understand, Ms. King, that we have a huge event planned for the community tonight. Perhaps you could— MS. KING: ". . . make an exception. Because it's (with disdain) Christmas? Not a chance. You have ten minutes to leave the property, or I'll call the authorities. (Kids react) MS. MAPLE: Listen. We don't need a building to show God's love.
