Gloria—Michael John Trotta.
A work for choir, brass quintet, organ, timpani,
and cymbals, this setting of the Gloria delivers
a tapestry of melodic richness and rhythmic
energy. A strong sense of architecture guides
the listener through the three contrasting
movements. Trotta's work is a rare example
of music that is both grounded in tradition
and appealing to the modern listener.
Exciting and inspiring!

Lux Aeterna—Morten Lauridsen.
When this magnificent choral work made its
debut in 1997, it was immediately recorded by
the Los Angeles Master Chorale and received
a Grammy nomination. Since then, it has
earned a place in the choral repertoire as one
of the most significant musical statements of
the 20th century. The a cappella movement
O Nata Lux is a pristine example of
Lauridsen's compositional style, and the
combined effect of Lauridsen's soaring
melodies and clustered harmonic textures
is truly ethereal. A work of uncompromising
beauty for the accomplished choir.

Noe! Pastores, Cantate Domino
(A Motet in Homage to Giovanni Gabrieli)—
Paul Mack Somers. In a new setting of
Bouzignac's Noe! Pastores, Somers draws
inspiration from the compositional styles of
Bach and attention to location from Gabrieli.
This three-part antiphonal motet is written
for three choral groups, each placed in a
different location in the church. During the initial
performance, the narrator/Evangelist (SSTT)
was in one transept balcony, Gabriel (AABB)
in the opposite transept balcony, and the
shepherds (SATB) below by the altar. Handbells
and organ complete the setting.

Snow Angel—Sarah Quartel. This evocative
five-movement choral work explores themes
of love, rebirth, and beauty through the eyes of
children and the heavenly army of angels that
watch over them, yearning to make a difference
in their lives. The work may be performed
with narration in which three angels present
their perspectives on their earthly charges.
Quartel weaves a haunting and poignant cello
line throughout the work, and a vibrant part
for djembe in the fourth movement, Sweet
Child, carries the listener from the ethereal and
mystical realm the work predominantly inhabits
into an emphatic anthem with a distinctly
African feel. The musical language is emotive
and pictorial, allowing performers to play an
active role in the storytelling.
