Christina Rossetti poem uses easy mixed

moderate ranges and lyrical lines, this will be
a favorite of your young singers! "Boats sail on
the rivers, and ships sail on the seas. But the
clouds that sail across the sky are lovelier far
than these..." Highly recommended!

Ht onse Aba (Traditional Zambian Song)—
B
arr. Andrew Fischer. Here is an exuberant a
cappella number that's loaded with African
atmosphere! The traditional Zambian words
are sung throughout, with such a buoyant
rhythmic feel that you are transported into the
center of a native celebration. "Bonse Aba"
translates as "All that sing have the right to
be called the children of God." The song is
brief, but may be repeated as many times as
desired. Various voicing options are possible,
and African percussion may be added as the
piece progresses. Your choir will definitely want
to improvise some celebratory whoops and
shouts! Highly recommended!

4 reak of Day—Michael John Trotta. This
B
original work based on a poem by John Donne
has lyrical, legato vocal lines which unfold
to reveal a subtle interplay between voices,
interwoven with piano and optional obbligato line
for oboe or English horn. The text, an account of
two lovers faced with parting, concludes with the
yearning refrain, "Stay or else my joys will die,"
giving voice to the dichotomy of the feelings
of joy and pain associated with closeness and
separation from a loved one.

"I have spread my dreams beneath your feet;
tread softly, you tread on my dreams." Gorgeous
melodies abound in this stunning setting of
Yeats's beloved poem. Lush choral writing is
complemented by the artful accompaniment,
and the hushed, emotional ending is the perfect
punctuation to this expressive work. It is
absolutely superb! Highly recommended!

Cantar!—Jay Althouse. Cuban salsa music is
sweeping the country, and Cantar! (which means
"Sing!" in Spanish) is a stylistically authentic
salsa work for choir. The text is a combination of
English and simple, repetitive Spanish phrases,
set to a rhythmically infectious melody. It's
a cross-cultural song for general concerts,
especially during "Music In Our Schools" month.
The recorded accompaniment really sizzles!

Everyone loves a spiritual, and Tom Fettke
has outdone himself with this arrangement!
It powerfully captures the original's spirit of
determination as it mentions three biblical
characters who overcame serious trials. The
choral writing has all the texture and harmonic
interest of an a cappella piece, but the colorful
and supportive piano accompaniment makes it
accessible for almost any choir.

Melchior Franck/arr. Spevacek. This lovely,
late Renaissance/early Baroque work is
complemented by a new, contemporary English
text for general use by school choirs, and also
a soaring descant which adds to the emotional
impact. The English text, a powerful call for
peace, is not intended to be a literal translation
of the original Latin (which is also included as
a performance option). Whether performed
accompanied or a cappella, this piece provides
a marvelous masterwork experience for young
and developing choirs!

This minor-key folksong arrangement really
captures the feeling of Scotland, enhanced by
optional violin or flute, hand drum and guitar.
Hand claps also add much to the overall effect,
and the historical notes about Prince Charles
(Bonnie Prince Charlie) will help to bring the
piece to life for your students!

arr. Tom Fettke. Bold and dignified,
this powerful new arrangement of
America the Beautiful includes a verse
that uses the words of Emma Lazarus'
poem, The New Colossus. Words
and melody come together to form
a breathtaking anthem of patriotism.
Accompanied by piano or with the
addition of the optional brass quintet
and timpani parts, this work will be well
received in school, community, and
sacred performances alike.
