15 The Story of Noah and the Great flood SAILOR 1: (reading from the "Bible") Chapter One. The story of Noah and the Great Flood. (SAILOR 1 exits with the "Bible.") STORYTELLER 3: A long, long time ago, God looked over the face of the earth and discov- ered human beings weren't doing too well. STORYTELLER 4: (in an exaggeratedly pompous manner) The Bible says: "Every imagination of the thoughts of their hearts was evil continually." STORYTELLER 3: Which is another way of saying... ALL: (flipping to face the audience) People were acting nasty! (ALL except STORYTELLERS begin to behave wildly and noisily—dancing, pretend fighting, etc.) STORYTELLER 4: Hold it! (ALL stop in mid-action and look to STORYTELLER 4.) I'm sorry, but you were enjoying that way too much. (ALL grumble and sit down.) STORYTELLER 3: Now all that nastiness was making the earth itself pretty nasty. STORYTELLER 4: So God decided to wipe everything off the face of the earth and start over. STORYTELLER 3: Now the one bright spot in this picture was a couple by the name of Mr. and Mrs. Noah. (NOAH and MRS. NOAH stand and link arms, center stage.) STORYTELLER 4: The Bible says that Noah was somebody who "walked with God." (NOAH and MRS. NOAH start walking in place on the word "walked" above.) STORYTELLER 3: So God spoke to Noah and asked him to build a great big boat… STORYTELLER 4: …called an ark… STORYTELLER 3: …out of gopher wood... STORYTELLER 4: ...which I guess is another name for hickory and not a description of how he had to get it... (NOAH and MRS. NOAH stop walking as STORY- TELLER 4 looks at the audience expectantly, waiting for a laugh.) Get it? Gopher wood? Go—for—the wood? For Preview Only
