Feature your finest players in these exciting solos with orchestra!
Allegro for Cello and String Orchestra—
Antonio Vivaldi/arr. Fishburn.
This is a
straightforward bit of Baroque writing for cello solo
(optional double bass or bassoon solo) with string
orchestra. It's fairly short, making it a great choice for
a quick change of pace selection.

Allegro Spiritoso—Jean-Baptiste Senaille/
arr. Frost.
This arrangement provides a rich and
energetic accompaniment for the virtuosic, yet
accessible solo part. The multiple solo options of violin,
viola or cello, are all arranged in the key of D minor,
thus using the same accompaniment. Lots of fantastic
options here with this often used contest piece!

Ashokan Farewell—arr. Bob Cerulli. The PBS
special The Civil War was one that captured America's
attention. This beautiful lament from that documentary
has taken on a life of its own. Bob Cerulli's
arrangement opens with a feature for solo violin,
continues with strings alone, and includes the option
of using piano, winds, and brass for a full orchestra
version. A timeless melody that captures the hearts of
all who hear it!

Bailes Para Orquesta—Richard Meyer.
These "Dances for Orchestra" are extremely appealing
Latin/South American showcases for two solo violins
and string orchestra. They simply sparkle with their
engaging rhythms and vitality. A major achievement
at this level from master composer Richard Meyer,
this work fully captures the audience and players'
attention from start to finish.
2397628 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . . . .M 75.00
Blackberry Blossom—Gary Gackstatter.
Feature your top player on this famous American
tune! The first time through, the soloist takes the lead
accompanied by some pizzicato and the occasional
foot stomp. The second time though, first violins play
most of the tune along with the soloist. The third and
final time through the soloist gets some nice variations
on the tune. And, oh yes, the faster the better!

Celtica—Brian Balmages. What could be more
inspiring to your young players than playing with an
advanced player? Offer the solo to a local high school
or college student, or even a pro in the area and have
them guest star in your next concert. Or, inspire your
players by offering an easier version of the solo to
be played by a member of your orchestra. It's a win-
win situation for everyone! Your players will love the
chance to play the lyrical lines and powerful, driving
rhythms of Celtic music.

Concerto for Triangle—Mike Hannickel.
Here's a unique way to add some fun to your
program. Staged with a featured player, this piece
unfolds with numerous missed opportunities for
the triangle soloist (maybe a local celebrity, like the
principal, mayor, or a special teacher), and culminates
with a big finish concerto style.

Concerto in D Minor (The "Bach Double")—
J. S. Bach/arr. Moore.
We're sure you're familiar
with this one! It's the standard piece known as the
"Bach Double" that every Suzuki student eventually
learns. And chances are, you have two students who
would love to be featured in this great arrangement!
Arranged for string orchestra with optional piano (or
harpsichord), the viola, cello and bass sections play
throughout, and the two violin parts alternate between
tutti sections and solo sections. It's a very practical
design that allows you to make the most of all your
violinists while still featuring your two "stars!"

Danza Latina—Brian Balmages. The ultimate in
performance flexibility: you can feature a violinist or
violist at the advanced level, or the easy level! Written
for a professional Venezuelan-born violist, this work
draws inspiration from the passionate dance rhythms
of Latin America. Ideal for young orchestras who are
interested in featuring a soloist, the piece comes with
an advanced viola solo as well as an easier version
that can be performed by a violist in your group. The
same options are given for violin! Easy percussion
parts really add flare, making this the showstopper of
your next program. It's a great way to add some sizzle
to your next concert! Highly recommended!

Japanese Lullaby—Keiko Yamada.
This dramatic music is based on an authentic
Japanese folk song Mori no Fukuro (The Forest
Owl). This pensive and beautiful tune becomes the
inspiration for a truly unique arrangement. Textures
change mysteriously as a solo violin and solo cello
exchange, melodies, followed by 2 solo violins soaring
over pizzicato accompaniment. This builds into the
final statement of the folk song with an obbligato in
the first violins. Highly recommended!

One Bow Concerto—Richard Meyer.
Your audience will laugh out loud! A violinist, a
violist and a cellist have soloist seats in front of the
orchestra, and they share just one bow, passing it to
one another just in the nick of time. The orchestra is
all pizzicato, so there really is only one bow. "But a
cellist shouldn't use a violin bow," you think. Right, so
they stop passing it to him and the cellist shows what
he thinks of that! By the end the bow is in the hand of
the conductor. Recommended as a show-stopper!

Movement)—Antonio Vivaldi/arr. McCarrick.
This arrangement is simple enough for the violin,
viola, or cello soloist of your choice! Vivaldi's lyrical
second movement, now in G Major, stays true to
the original with the famous melody over pizzicato
accompaniment. Your students will enjoy playing
either the solo or the accompaniment part! The violin
solo is entirely in first position, and the viola and cello
soloists only need to know the first three notes they
learn in third position: D, E, and F sharp on the A
string! Highly recommended!
