SCENE 1 (Eugenia walks around on the stage setting things on tables, in preparation for Christmas festivities. She talks to herself as she recites the Old Testament books of the Bible. Gets hung up on the pronunciation of "Habakkuk." Kids enter and are excited as they see Eugenia is preparing the room for Christmas.) JOY: That's right! (runs to a box and pulls out twinkle lights, unconsciously turning in circles, wrapping herself in the lights, and posing like the Statue of Liberty) Tonight starts Christmas in the City! This is my favorite time of year! ZACH: No, it's Christmas in KidCity! It's the Sunday after Thanksgiving. Hello?! . . . we do this every year!? (starts looking through the Christmas decorations) STEVE: (to Joy) Oh, Joy! I LOVE the way you light up the room! JOE: (walking behind Steve, looking at Zach) *#you light up his life! STEVE: (to Eugenia) Miss E., why are you quoting Old Testament books at a Christmas party? (to Izzy) And Izzy, lighten up! (handing her a strand of lights) EUGENIA: (reminiscing) Oooh . . . Christmas just brings back so many memories . . . like 1978— KIDS: (all chime in as if they have heard this before)—the Bible Quiz Finals. ZACH: Hey, enough about 1978. It's time to party! EUGENIA: Yes, that's right! This year is going to be awesome. We are going to do it un-like we've ever done it before. Come on, let's get started! JOE: #this is gonna be big! (music begins to "This Is Gonna Be Big") *throughout, the symbol "#" is spoken, i.e. "hashtag, you light up his life!" 5 For Preview Only
