A JOURNEY TO HOPE - SATB This cantata was inspired by the great tradition of spirituals. These treasured songs of faith are incredible resources for beautiful melodies and powerful texts. In some cases, I have adapted the original lyric to help tell the story of Christ's ministry, passion, and resurrection. I hope my re-purposing of the texts will be useful to churches as they share the message of grace with their congregations. There are many splendid arrangements of these amazing songs in the choral repertoire, and I invite you to explore this important body of work. Two endings are provided for A JOURNEY TO HOPE. One ending is intended for use during a Holy Week presentation. For this version, end the piece at the conclusion of "They Crucified My Lord." The opening instrumental prelude may be used to accompany a reflective dismissal or a recessional. For a festive Easter ending, sing the work to its conclusion. The narration provided will help to transition the work from the shadows of the cross to the alleluias of a glorious Easter morning. Please feel free to adapt this material in any way to better meet the needs of your worship tradition. Joseph M. Martin PERFORMANCE NOTES 3 For Preview Only
