25 NARRATOR: To whom could such a message be entrusted? This message of liberation, Of celebration, Of re-creation Was entrusted to the messengers of the Most High. To whom could they sing in holy angelic proclamation? They were sent to the humble, The poor, The hopeless – Mere shepherds huddled in the vast expanse of night Around a small fire – Not much heat or light. Then it was as though the blanket of night was ripped open And the heavenly host paraded Before the frightened shepherds. "Don't be afraid! Do not be afraid," they called, Their words cascading like shooting stars, As they burst into song. "Glory to the new-born King! He is born the Divine Christ Child. Your hopes and prayers are realized. You will find Him in Bethlehem Wrapped in swaddling clothes Lying in a manger. Go and worship Him." And suddenly all their fears subsided As the night sky was ignited, As the shepherds saw and heard choirs of angels Sing from sheer joy. For Preview Only
