This bright Latin/samba chart features the full ensemble getting off to a high-energy start, then the alto sax and trumpet take over to present the melody. The trombone section jumps in for the bridge before the trumpets make their majestic return to finish out the form. A 16-bar montuna builds in layers to send off the alto sax soloist, followed by a trombone soloist leading into the entire trombone section trading fours with the drummer. The trumpets join in for two more passages before the saxes take over with a hot section soli. The trumpets return with the final statement of the melody and lead to the big finish. It's an exciting chart for festivals or any performance! 10518350 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . MA 50.00 H Punta Del SoulDave Grusin/arr. Gordon Goodwin. Tasty and groovy with a funky Latin groove, this tune was composed by Dave Grusin and arranged by Gordon to feature Dave and guitarist Lee Ritenour on the Big Phat Band CD, Act Your Age. If you have a piano player to showcase and a tasty guitar player, this is a wonderful chart. Not technically difficult, but dynamics and colors are a key aspect of this arrangement. Doubles include an optional flute on 2nd alto and optional bass clarinet on bari sax, but sax parts are provided. As recorded by the Big Phat Band. 10071932 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . .
