This original work is a tribute to the life of Monsignor Hugh O'Flaherty, who played a significant role in saving the lives of Jews and Allied prisoners during World War II. Due to his ability to out-fox frequent traps laid by the Nazis, O'Flaherty was nicknamed the "Scarlet Pimpernel of the Vatican." Performers should swing the rhythm throughout the piece using a traditional jazz-waltz style. This has long been one of the most popular tunes in the Barrage show. Adapted for string orchestra, this arrangement retains the feel of the show and will sound fantastic! Made famous by Paul Desmond and the Dave Brubeck Quartet, this jazz standard is known the world over as the tune that introduced 5/4 meter to the jazz scene.
