Lux AngelisStephen Chin. This advanced string
orchestra work may be played with optional Grade 1
strings, Grade 2 strings, keyboard and percussion.
The notion of light pervading the universe is, in the

This is represented to some extent by the use of
suspended chords and an abundance of harmonics.
The piece concludes with what can be imagined to
be a chorus of angels bathed in heavenly light.

4 On the Pilgrim's RoadJeffrey S. Bishop. This
exciting work for string orchestra features thematic
material taken from songs of the 12th to 14th
century "Pilgrim Road" to Jerusalem. Technically
demanding, the driving thematic materials of the

sections. It's a unique piece that works equally well
for winter and spring concerts.

l RestFrank Ticheli. Rest is a string orchestra
adaptation of the composer's work for SATB
chorus, There Will Be Rest, commissioned in
1999 by the Pacific Chorale. Almost everything
is preserved from the original, including harmony,
dynamics, and the original registration. Care was
taken to carefully preserve the fragile beauty and
quiet dignity suggested by Sara Teasdale's words.
The work is dedicated to the memory of Cole
Carsan St. Clair, the son of the composer's dear
friends, conductor Carl St. Clair and his wife, Susan.

4 Stone and SteelRichard Meyer. This modern
concert overture treats the listener and performer
to a myriad of styles and moods. The piece begins
with a heavy, ponderous theme which depicts
the limestone quarries that first earned Joliet
the nickname "City of Stone" in the early 1800s.
With the construction of a steel mill in 1869,
Joliet became known as the "City of Steel." The
two themes, "stone" and "steel," are then further
developed, and the piece culminates in a majestic,
celebratory final statement of the "steel" theme.
10594969 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 56.00
l String DreamsJulie Lyonn Liebermann. This
lighthearted quodlibet was commissioned by ASTA
and premiered in 2015. It provides a fabulous
tool to introduce students to key musical themes
across time. The score plays off of the nocturnal
mind to combine twelve historic musical themes
by condensing and expanding them the way
our subconscious mind often toys with daytime
experiences in dreams.
10592946 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 55.00
l SupernovaChris Owenby. This Grade 3 piece
for string orchestra is meant to be played with
intensity from beginning to end. The mixed meter
and accented syncopations add to the energy and
explosive nature of the piece. A contrasting section
provides the orchestra with a bit of rhythmic relief
and gives the listener a moment to reflect on the
beauty and vastness of space before diving back
into the driving rhythm of the explosion.
10619364 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 40.00
H SynergyDeborah Baker Monday. There's never
a dull moment in this dynamic original, full of driving
rhythmic elements and gorgeous chordal textures.
Students should strive to achieve a rich sonority
throughout. The contrasting middle section allows
for more sensitive, expressive playing, then the
energy resumes, propelling the piece to a strong
conclusion. The title is appropriate, because the
overall effect of the work is greater than the sum
of its parts!
10281205 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 50.00
