The aching emotion in this interpretation of Scarborough Fair is a genuine treat for young string groups. The lyrics of the 16th century (possibly older) ballad relates a heartsick couple proposing impossible tasks to prove unending love to one another. Embodied with simple counter lines, harmonies, and dynamic range, Brian Balmages paints an image of youthful love and its inherent theatrics. Excellent! 10091946 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 40.00 n Scottish Folk SongTraditional/Keith Christopher. This immortal five-note melody is showcased here with warm harmonies in a chorale-like, legato style. Enjoy a taste of Scottish style in this sensitive and engaging setting. 10522563 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 46.00 l Shady GroveTraditional/arr. Renata Bratt. This American fiddle song is arranged so that every section gets a chance to sing the song as well as play the tune with idiomatic fiddle breaks, but it sounds great without the singing, too. The fast-driving rhythmic power of offbeat accents in cut time is emphasized in this accessible D Major arrangement. The tune calls for fast left-hand fingers and some quick bow crossings, though it stays in first position. 10594761 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 49.00 4 Simple GiftsJoseph Brackett/arr. Carrie Lane Gruselle. Lighthearted and energetic, this arrangement of Simple Gifts suggests a dance-like character. Douglas Wagner. Bring the wonder of Africa to your orchestra with this fabulous arrangement of the traditional Zulu song, Siyahamba! The simple modal melodies of Star of the East and Babe of Bethlehem are passed throughout the orchestra before concluding with the stirring spiritual Rise Up, Shepherd, and Follow. The keys, meters and bowings are all playable by second-year string students, but intermediate and advanced students will also find it a satisfying holiday concert piece. 10594967 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 46.00 l Songs for SlumberEngelbert Humperdinck/ arr. Jan Farrar-Royce. The delightful, beautiful melodies and harmonies are the stars in this arrangement of two wonderful lullabies, All Through the Night and Evening Prayer. To be performed softly and simply, opportunities are provided for exploring timbre and tone. 10594745 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 46.00 n Soon I Will Be DoneCarrie Lane Gruselle. This masterful arrangement presents the traditional spiritual with articulation tugging against the conversant legato passages, embodying the tension of the earth-bound life against the anticipation of what's to come. Richard Meyer. Try this tender folksong from Taiwan to develop your students' sensitive and lyric style. Accompanied by lush, modern-sounding harmonies, the melody is passed to each section. The solos for violin and cello are at a medium-easy level, and are accompanied by a prominent harp or piano part. Simply gorgeous! 2442762 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 48.00 n Stone Mountain StompCarl Strommen. This one stands out in the "fiddle tune" category. Carl Strommen has managed to take some of the sounds of Southern fiddling and mix them with a Western "Copland-esque" style and make something really special. Another great feature of this one is that the violas and low strings all get a chance at some fiddling. 2472094 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 47.00 Suo GanTraditional/arr. Larry Clark. This popular Welsh folk song has been used in TV and movies over the years. Mesmerizing! 10453854 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 49.00 n Variations on an Irish TuneBrian Balmages. Based on Thomas Moore's famous song The Minstrel Boy, this work uses the full gamut of styles and techniques, from bagpipe drones to lyrical playing and even fiddle music. The work is composed of three variations that run together seamlessly. The first variation presents the entire tune, much more upbeat than it is usually performed. The second, lyrical section is absolutely beautiful and offers an opportunity for working on musicianship and phrasing without overextending the group technically. The final section is fiddle music and takes the audience on a thrill ride that builds to a glorious conclusion. A wonderful piece to showcase your group! 10008688 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 50.00 Folk and Multicultural Medium-Easy H African AdventureRobert Sheldon. When it comes time to celebrate the musical colors of Africa, combine forces with your string group and percussion ensemble on this stylish concert work for the developing ensemble. This original piece is in a style reminiscent of the music of the rich cultural heritage of the Appalachia. Music is an important part of the Appalachian way of life. Traditional Appalachian music is derived primarily from the English and Scottish ballad tradition and Irish and Scottish fiddle music. African-American blues musicians played a significant role in developing the instrumental aspects of Appalachian music as well. 10594925 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 49.00 H Ashokan Farewell (from The Civil War)arr. This is technically quite easy, but very emotional. 2238723 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 54.00 H Blue Fire FiddlerSoon Hee Newbold. Energetic, exciting and fun, are the words that best describe this kickin' fiddle tune. This fast and furious fiddling piece sounds much harder than it really is. Riffs, finger patterns and bowings are very idiomatic and lend themselves to fast playing. This is sure to be the hit of the concert! 2474322 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 50.00 H Danny Boyarr. Harry Alshin. Lovely, interweaving countermelodies create a rich inner texture in this beautiful arrangement of the timeless love song. Ear-igami is a fascinating musical tribute to the ancient Japanese art of paper folding. Instead of a bow, each performer uses a piece of paper to make sounds and to "play" their instrument. Your audience will be entranced as they watch and hear the variety of effects possible in this charming set of pentatonic variations. Premiered by the composer's middle school orchestra, this music is sure to intrigue high school and adult musicians as well. There's nothing else like it! 10066927 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 56.00 Fantasia on a Theme from ThailandRichard Meyer. This captivating work is a set of variations on the Pong Lang Dance, one of Thailand's most popular melodies. The pong lang is a suspended vertical wooden xylophone whose keys are arranged upside down, with the low notes on the upper end and the high notes at the bottom. The melody uses the pentatonic scale and is very simple in nature. The variations expand on fragments of the original tune in a variety of tempi and styles that make each new change thrilling! After this exploration, the original melody returns, gradually gaining speed and energy as one would hear in a traditional performance of this dance. 10015211 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 48.00 H Folk Tune and Fiddle DancePercy Fletcher. A long-time favorite for festival and contest, Percy Fletcher's two-movement suite has been a choice teaching piece for school orchestras. In true English folk style, the first movement has multiple sections in varying styles and meters, and the second movement is rhythmic, energetic fiddle writing at its best. 4964359 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 65.00 n Funiculi, FuniculaLuigi Denza/arr. The string parts contain lots of divisi writing and there are parts for optional flute, oboe, clarinet, French horn, and harp. John Williams' treatment of the Israeli national anthem gives a special reverence and power to this beloved hymn. 10016087 String Orch or Full Orch opt. Winds & Harp . . . . . . . 40.00 n Irish Party in Third Classarr. Larry Moore. One of the most memorable moments in the movie "Titanic" was the Irish dancing scene in the steerage section of the ship. The group Gaelic Storm provided the recording for the film, heard on the second soundtrack album Back To Titanic. Your orchestra will love the energy of this version that includes piano and percussion throughout to really enhance those catchy Celtic rhythms! Irresistible! 2413557 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 45.00 n Las PalmasBob Lipton. Fiery original melodies take center stage in this spicy selection. Major themes are presented with all of the color and fresh invention of the original score. This is music that will delight and entertain audiences of any age. It's as much fun to play as it is to listen to! Highly recommended! 10305953 String Orch or Full Orch . . . 65.00 n Molly on the ShorePercy Grainger/arr. Dackow. A rollicking good time! Not another "Celtic clone," this is actually a setting of two Irish reels Grainger arranged for string quartet in 1907. It retains much of its quartet flavor by giving each section lots to do. But don't worry, the second violins and violas remain in first position throughout. The Dackow/ Grainger combination ensures a crowd-pleaser that you can feel confident programming! Very nice! 5665377 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . 50.00 " Just wanted to take a moment to thank your company for having such a fantastic, easy-to- navigate website!" —Christine Schmidt, Flossmoor, IL Bookkeeper Services The tools bookkeepers need. jwpepper.com/ap
