Jacques Offenbach was a product of the Paris Conservatory, becoming a professional cellist. However, today he is best known as the composer of light opera, including Ballet Parisien, La Belle Helene, and Orpheus in the Underworld. This "Galop" is a spirited and light-hearted work containing the origins of what we know today as the Marines Hymn. This scoring by John Bourgeois is sure to become a standard. 3011931 Band Set & Score. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . This original work for military band was written by the great composer in honor of the young king, Ludwig II, who became Wagner's greatest patron. This meticulously edited new edition enables the modern concert band to play this masterwork as it was originally presented. (5:00) 3013221 Band Set & Score. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . "Honey Boy" Cupero during his successful career as a cornetist, band leader, music director, arranger, and composer. First published in 1914, it is a classic example of marches from this era, and it was very popular with American minstrels and circuses. 3010951 Band Set & Score. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Johan Halvorsen's In Memoriam, Opus 30 was written for the great Norwegian poet Bjornstjerne Bjornson. The two men became very close friends and Halvorsen composed a funeral march in Bjornson's honor upon his death in 1910. The music's link with Bjornson is underscored by the fact that it opens with a paraphrase of the Norwegian national anthem. At the peak, it suddenly falls away, and following a roll of the timpani, the anthem is played in its entirety. Vocal parts sung by members of the ensemble contribute to the overall effect and make this a most memorable and moving work. 3014901 Band Set & Score. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . John Clifford Heed (1862-1908) was known as the "March Wizard," and has more than 60 published marches to his credit. In Storm and Sunshine was one of his earliest works, and it remains his most popular work to this day. It has all the ingredients for a great march, and this new edition by the former director of the U.S. Marine Band provides a fresh new approach to the long time favorite. 3011891 Band Set & Score. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Best known for his marches, Davide Dele Cese was an Italian band leader, composer and teacher who enjoyed a long and rich musical career. His march, Inglesina, is one of his most popular marches and is an international favorite. This accomplished edition by the former director of the United States Marine Band is based on the original 1871 Italian edition and brings new excitement and freshness to this European classic. 3011101 Band Set & Score. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . William Paris Chambers (November 1, 1854 - November 13, 1913) was an American composer, cornet soloist and bandmaster who wrote several cornet solos and nearly 90 marches. His most famous marches are Chicago Tribune, The Boys of the Old Brigade, Hostrauser's, Northwind and Revelation. The King of Terror March was published by J.W. Pepper in 1882. Its title is thought to be inspired by a carnival or midway attraction. The march is fast and furious, with all the drama and ferocity that's reflected in its name. Although one of his earlier marches, King of Terror contains all of the characteristics of Chambers' famous bravura band writing. 3015741 Band Set & Score. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . In 1922 Halvorsen was commissioned to write incidental music for the bicentennial performance of a comedy written by Norwegian playwright Ludvig Holberg. Masquerade calls for a diverse pallet of music depicting ballet and dance scenes filled with silly play and gaiety. As a result, the music is graceful, as found in Cotillion, playful as in the Bacchanale, and burlesque for the Rooster and Grotesque dances. The original Masquerade Suite for orchestra consisted of eight dances; this arrangement for concert band comprises the first, third, fifth and sixth movements of Halvosen's original suite. A delightful programing selection displaying humor, wit and elegance in the four brief movements. 3015381 Band Set & Score. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
