uplifting, this original contemporary 2/4 march
is written in the traditional march form. The bold

4e Normal—Harold Bennett/arr. Larry Clark. Despite
the title, this march is anything but normal, and it
may be one of the composer's finest. It's written
in the fast and fun vein of all his great marches
and uses the standard form with catchy, tuneful
melodies. This forgotten gem is a great way
to introduce march style playing to younger
students so they can prepare for and appreciate
all the great marches they'll experience.

4e The Thunderer March—arr. Robert E. Foster,
Jr. This well-known march, said to be Mrs.
Sousa's favorite, is adapted here for young bands
and still retains all the charm and appeal of the
original. With the woodwind parts lowered and
the rhythms and snare drum part simplified, it's
very playable by most middle school bands. It's a
great way for young musicians to experience the
music of this famous composer while learning to
play in classic march style.

4e The U.S. Field Artillery—John Philip Sousa/
arr. Douglas E. Wagner. Composed in 1917,
the march later adopted as the official song of
the United States Army is one of Sousa's most
frequently performed titles. It's unique in that it
uses a familiar tune for the trio theme; in this case,
The Army Song. The original thematic material
has been diligently preserved in this accessible
scoring, making it a terrific march edition for
developing bands.

ingen. From the always popular collection of Karl
