It is obvious that they are very moved by this holy moment. As speaking begins, Oscar kneels at the manger.] MARY: JOSEPH: OLD SHEP: OSCAR: I knew it! I knew this day would come! The prophet Isaiah told us that a Child would come from the line of our ancestor, King David, who was a shepherd himself. This Child will be the Savior of the world. I never dreamed it would be in my lifetime. Well, Missy, you sure picked an outstanding night to visit us out here. [Still grouchy, but also very skeptical] I don't know how they pulled this off, but someone went to a lot of trouble for this practical joke. Oh, Oscar, where's your faith? This is a gift from God! The prophet Micah told us that the Messiah would come from Bethlehem. I think we should go find that manger and see this Baby sent from God. Oh, Grandpa, can we go? Can we? Can we? We can't leave the flock behind and go on some wild-goose chase. Settle down, Oscar. I know we never leave our flock alone, but I do believe that what we have seen and heard is God's doing. We'll leave them in the hands of the Lord, who is our Shepherd. Alright, alright, I'll agree to go, just to make sure you don't take too long. And, you'll see that I was right. There will be no manger and no baby. I guess you will all feel pretty sheepish then. Welcome, shepherds. This is Jesus. He is a descendant of your own ancestor, King David, but He is also God's Son. Before He was born, an angel told me that He would be great and His kingdom would never end. Another angel told me that He is from the Holy Spirit and He would come to save His people from their sin. The prophets said that the Messiah would be like a lamb. [Rises from the manger, clearly, a changed man] I was wrong! Jesus is here! This Lamb will lead us all—a Lamb and a Shepherd. I guess that's why we shepherds were the first to be told the news. For Preview Only
