Chuck Israels. Here's a Horace Silver standard blues piece set in a small band format. It's joyful and subtle at the same time, with a specific eighth- note feel, without which the chart will sound overly bouncy. But with the right emphasis and phrasing, it's a swinging chart with few difficulties once the eighth-note feel has been mastered. Small Band: ATB Saxes, Trumpet, Trombone, Guitar, Piano, Bass, and Drums. 10757442 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 50.00 H OrnithologyParker & Harris/arr. Greg Yasinitsky. Greg Yasinitsky has set Charlie Parker's great bebop tune to swing at about 172 - 200 bpm. Featuring plenty of excellent sax section solis, brass solis, solo spaces (suggested written solos included) for tenor sax, and piano, this is fine big band swing chart on a great tune. The lead trumpet range goes up to written B-flat above the staff and optional flute and vibraphone parts are included. This is essential jazz repertoire, and this chart is very highly recommended! 10355616 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 52.00 Parisian ThoroughfareBud Powell/arr. Mark Taylor. Based on the classic version recorded by Clifford Brown, this chart opens with a frantic "traffic jam" effect before settling into a more relaxed, yet up-tempo, swing style. The melody is first stated by a combo of tenor, trumpet, guitar and vibes, and joined later by the saxes and ultimately the entire ensemble. A distinctive tutti spot, minus the rhythm section, helps set up the solo section. Parisian Thoroughfare is a terrific showpiece for every section of the band! 10617876 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 55.00 PopoShorty Rogers/arr. Mike Tomaro. Shorty Rogers was one of the primary creators of West Coast jazz, both as a composer and performer. Popo is a great example of a cool blues set in a medium tempo with solo space for any player. 10617880 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 55.00 4 A Question of HopeAntonio J. Garcia. You'll know it from Gordon Goodwin's Grammy-nominated CD Swingin' for the Fences, and it is one very hot chart! 2470788 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 60.00 4 Sister Sadie (Little Big Band)Horace Silver/ arr. Chuck Israels. Chuck Israels: "I have heard that Gil Evans once said that all he'd do to score this piece would be to orchestrate Horace Silver's piano playing. I had done exactly that (before I had heard that Gil thought the same way about expanding this music), and the results have been reliably spectacular. We play it slightly faster than the original recording, but not so fast that the piece becomes frantic. It is energized enough and practically foolproof." Small Band: ATB Saxes, Trumpet, Trombone, Guitar, Piano, Bass, and Drums. 10757446 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 50.00 State Line StrutEllen Rowe. Paced at around 174 bpm, State Line Strut is a swinger with a New Orleans second line groove. The features include call and response sectional interplay, a small ensemble of alto 1 and trumpets 1 and 2 presenting the head, swinging full band passages, quotes from Back Home Again in Indiana, written solo exchanges, and the rhythm section laying down the second line feel. Additionally, there is solo space for any saxophone, guitar, trumpet 2, or anyone. Highly recommended! 10072784 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 55.00 4 Sub ZeroRoger Schmidli. Sub Zero is a bright jazz shuffle in the style of New York's legendary Vanguard Jazz Orchestra. The title reflects the composer's memories of his first visit to hear the band at the Village Vanguard in New York City during the depths of winter. After a quick a cappella trombone section introduction, it quickly settles into a tight and fun shuffle featuring piano and rhythm section. The full ensemble has its say before improvised solos for trombone, trumpet in plunger, and bass. Things really start to cook during the trumpet solo, then the bassist brings the intensity down a notch followed by the band roaring back in. Don't miss the very cool trombone section break before the band brings it to a finale. Highly recommended! 10748154 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 57.00 n Sweet Georgia Brownarr. Sammy Nestico.
