Gordon Goodwin. A few twists and turns added to the original Benny Goodman swing version make this chart a definite crowd and band pleaser. Gordon Goodwin's arrangement features a clarinet part and an alternate alto 1 part in lieu of clarinet. Solo changes are provided for all saxophone parts and clarinet, and the lead trumpet range is to high F-sharp. While not recorded by Goodwin's Big Phat Band, it's a staple of the band's library and is played often in live performances. Mark Taylor takes this familiar standard and creates a powerful up-tempo flag-waver for mature ensembles! The style slips seamlessly between swing and samba and provides some shining moments for lead trumpet along with the rest of the band. Also featured are solos for tenor sax, trumpet, piano, and drums, a roaring sax soli, and a screaming ensemble shout chorus. This monster arrangement is the authentic version as recorded by Bill Watrous and his Manhattan Wildlife Refuge in the mid '70s. The signature lines and blazing tempo of Chick Corea's classic are transformed into a roaring chart for big band by master arranger John LaBarbera. Alto 1 doubles flute, and alto 2 doubles soprano sax. 10052511 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 60.00 4 Take the 'A' TrainBilly Strayhorn/arr. Rich DeRosa. Ever heard of Take the 'A' Train? Not like this you haven't! Another ingenious arrangement from the towering Rich DeRosa, this uptempo swing chart is a journey through creative waters from beginning to end and will not disappoint. In additional to incredible ensemble writing, there is improvisation space for piano and alto saxophone. As recorded by the University of North Texas One O'Clock Lab Band on their album Lab 2013, DeRosa's arrangement of Take the 'A' Train is a must for any serious band. 10759924 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 65.00 l That's a PlentyLew Pollack/arr. Les Hooper. Based on Lew Pollack's Dixieland composition of That's a Plenty, Les Hooper has arranged an exciting uptempo chart that features solo space for soprano saxophone, trumpet, trombone, and drums. This is a delightful piece that will provide energy and variety to any concert program! 10759928 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 55.00 There Is No Greater LoveIsham Jones/arr. Eric Richards. Eric Richards presents an excellent swing chart for a strong band! Set at 184 bpm, it opens with a small group contrafact and includes some solo space for alto, trombone, and piano, followed by a kickin' sax soli and a shout. The lead trumpet range goes to written high D. A quality chart from top to bottom! 10452158 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 60.00 n Things to ComeGillespie & Fuller/arr. Gordon Goodwin. Composed by Dizzy Gillespie and Gil Fuller, here's Gordon Goodwin's chart as recorded by Arturo Sandoval and his big band on the CD, Dear Diz (Every Day I Think of You). This is a challenging swing chart that is very fast at around 202-232 bpm. The solo space is for all 5 saxes, trombones 1 and 2 and trumpet 4, with the lead trumpet range going to written high F-sharp with optional A-flats. There are nice sax solis and a trumpet section soli (or solo) that will be a challenge. If you have the horses, play it! 10362382 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 70.00 n The TurnaboutBenny Carter. Of all Benny Carter's small-group charts and big-band compositions, few live up to this one! Written for and recorded by the Count Basie Orchestra on their 1961 release The Legend, it smokes right off the top. The features include a very bright tempo, roaring full-band sections, and virtuosic demands across all sections of the band, especially the saxophone section. The solo space is for tenor saxophones 1 and 2 with individual solos, then a tenor chase that is supported by wonderful ensemble hits. Even better bands will find this full-time swinger a challenge, but it will be so worth the effort! Very highly recommended! 10607194 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 65.00 n Upper Manhattan Medical Group (UMMG) Billy Strayhorn/arr. Mike Kamuf. With a wonderful melody by the brilliant composer Billy Strayhorn, this arrangement by Mike Kamuf is superb and includes suggested or improvised solos for trumpet, tenor sax, and trombone. The trumpet 1 range is up to written high D-flat and the tempo swings at around 180 bpm. Section solis, big ensembles, and a fine shout chorus all contribute to making this an outstanding chart! 10513946 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 60.00 n Watermelon ManHerbie Hancock/arr. Gordon Goodwin. This classic Herbie Hancock composition has become one of the most familiar songs in jazz history. Gordon Goodwin wanted to do something a little different in his arrangement without violating the spirit and intent of the original version. He scored it as a jazz shuffle that screams excitement! Solis, big ensemble sections, modulations and solo space for alto, tenor, bari, trumpet 4 and trombone will provide all the excitement you need. As recorded on Gordon's newest CD, Act Your Age. Get it while it's hot! Highly recommended! 10071929 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 70.00 n What You Dealin' With?Wycliffe Gordon. This is the show closer that will bring down the house! The main groove is a funky boogaloo at about 103 bpm, plus a band chant, a swing section, and a gospel feel. Flexible solo space with written solos is provided for trombone 1, alto, tenor, and trumpet 2, and the lead trumpet range is to high C. Hey, there's something here for everyone! 10452164 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 60.00 The Windmills of Your MindMichel Legrand/ arr. Eric Richards. Here's a beautiful tune treated as a loose-swinging jazz waltz at around 155 bpm. The initial melody is stated by tenor and trumpet, then add a hot sax section soli, and written or ad lib solos for tenor and trumpet. All this and more in this brilliant chart! 10513944 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 62.00 WindowsChick Corea/arr. Mike Tomaro. This early Chick Corea composition features a jazz waltz at a breezy medium tempo. Even in this standard jazz form you can hear Corea's unique twists and turns in this iconic jazz classic. Windows is beautifully adapted by Mike Tomaro for full jazz ensemble. 10617884 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 60.00 Yo Tannenbaum! (O Tannenbaum)arr. Gordon Goodwin. Holiday jazz by Gordon Goodwin? Yes... and this adaptation of O Tannenbaum is quite an adventure! Offering a chorale, some Basie style and fast and furious Goodwin bebop, this is not your ordinary holiday jazz chart. There's solo space for alto and tenor sax, trumpet and trombone. The optional doubles are flute for 2nd alto sax, lead alto has either a standard alto part or an optional part for alto with a soprano double. An extremely exciting chart as performed by The Big Phat Band. 10011996 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 70.00 l Big Dipper—Thad Jones. Big Dipper was originally commissioned by Count Basie for an entire album of Thad Jones' music; however, Basie never made the record, instead suggesting that Thad start his own band. Big Dipper still maintains that swinging Basie mindset and is an extended 16-bar blues. Its basic foundations are a relaxed but powerful rhythm section with a driving ride cymbal and crisp hi-hat underpinning saxes and brass that are tight and always on the back of the beat. 10754221 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . A 65.00 l Cherry Juice—Thad Jones. As recorded by the Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Orchestra on the album New Life, Cherry Juice is a fast swing opus beginning with a full band statement and a short piano solo before the flugelhorn soloist steps into the spotlight. Then tenor saxophone carries a solo chorus, followed by a powerful ensemble shout, an incredible sax section soli, a 16-bar piano solo, and a short recap of the main theme. 10754223 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . A 65.00 l Don't Git Sassy—Thad Jones. Along with Big Dipper, Don't Git Sassy is one of the most familiar charts from the Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Orchestra's repertoire. As recorded on their Live at the Village Vanguard album, this spirited shuffle puts proficient bands through the paces. 10754225 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . A 65.00 l Groove Merchant—Jerome Richardson/arr. Thad Jones. As recorded by the Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Orchestra on their Central Park North album, this great collaboration between band member Jerome Richardson and Thad Jones has become an established standard for better bands. It's a mighty swinger with an edgy melodic line, contemporary voicings, and lots of section work that's guaranteed to bring audiences to their feet. 10754227 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . A 65.00 l Little Pixie II—Thad Jones & Mel Lewis. Little Pixie II was originally commissioned by Count Basie for an entire album of Thad Jones' music; however, Basie never made the record, instead suggesting that Thad start his own band.
