A ballad throughout that slowly builds in intensity, this chart utilizes woodwind doubles and flugelhorns with a short, written-out piano solo up front. Mike Carubia has rescored this sensitive Thad Jones jazz ballad in the lower key of C Major for greater accessibility while retaining all the original lines and character. The breathing, phrasing and dynamics have all been thoroughly notated to help students learn control, balance and intonation. There is a short written solo for trombone and a quasi-double-time section after the solo. This is wonderfully beautiful change-of-pace programming! Your lead alto player can really shine during this tuneful original for advancing groups. The composer highly recommends using the wordless optional vocal part to enhance the sensitivity and warmth of the piece. Ranges and rhythms are very accessible, but the rhythm section's interpretation must be solid and nuanced. The lead trumpet range is to written A above the staff. Give a listen to this great chart and decide for yourself. It's one of the quintessential features for alto saxophone! Highly recommended! This is one of the most famous vocal studio orchestra arrangements, recorded by Dean Martin in 1960. This is the authentic and swinging version that Nelson Riddle created to showcase Martin in his typical, easy-going vocal style. An optional synthesizer part has been included that may be used in place of the strings. There are no saxophone doubles and the vocal key is D throughout. This is oh, so nice!
