The flugelhorn solo range is up to an optional written high C, but the solo is cued on the 1st tenor part as well. Victor's arrangement brings this contemporary gem within the range of the developing trumpet player without losing any of the hip appeal of the original. The lead trumpet range is to written G on top of the staff, there are suggested or improvised solos for alto, tenor, bari, trumpet and trombone along with backgrounds on cue. This chart is very playable by a good middle school or a high school jazz ensemble. It's the Gordon Goodwin Big Phat Band sound, but accessible for your band. Play it now! Ever since the widespread popularity of the Jeff Jarvis funk original Critical Mass, requests for a sequel have been pouring in. At last, Jeff has composed and arranged Honk, with all the characteristics that made its predecessor such a hit with jazz ensembles, only at a slightly more accessible level. Like Critical Mass, Honk begins with a cool sax section introduction, clearly placing your baritone saxophonist in the limelight, but without excessive technical demands. Everyone has interesting and challenging parts to play throughout and the modulation near the end gives it an extra, added lift. The solos are open and the backgrounds can be varied by instrumentation. This one is hot from beginning to end! From the Trombone Shorty CD Backatown, this tune features the powerful underlying pulse of a New Orleans second line feel along with elements of contemporary rock. There's written or improvised solo space for trumpet. In this exciting chart, the ensemble alternately screams with the full band riffs, then settles into a simmering rhythmic groove. Also included are written bass lines and piano voicings. A real treat to perform and hear! 10490297 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 50.00 I Love Lucyarr. Paul Baker. Check out this hip- hop setting by Paul Baker on the famous TV theme. Unique, but very appealing, it's loaded with wonderful writing, great development, written or improvised solos for trumpet, tenor sax, and drums, a hip sax soli, and the lead trumpet range is only to written G on top of the staff. This outstanding chart is also playable with optional expanded instrumentations. This arranger does this style extremely well and this one is no exception. Mix the stylish spy music from the 1960s with a dose of cool jazz and you have a winning combination for jazz ensemble. From the Pixar hit animated movie, here's a high-energy and entertaining chart that captures the essence of the soundtrack perfectly, with three themes from the movie that offer a ton of variety and entertainment! A middle section in a jazz waltz style is framed by exciting rock styles that will be appealing to both audiences and developing players. Highly recommended! 2480196 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 50.00 It's All Right with MeCole Porter/arr. Alan Baylock. Here's Alan Baylock's contemporary treatment of this wonderful jazz standard in a half-time funk feel played with the half note equaling about 96 bpm. The lead trumpet range is to written B flat, a suggested written alto sax solo is included, optional parts are included for expanded instrumentations, and the initial melody is stated by trombones and then bounces to each section. Oh yes, Cole Porter and Alan Baylock... big-band writing doesn't get much better than this! Highly recommended! 10593781 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 52.00 n Late to LunchRich Woolworth. With a cool groove at a moderate tempo, Late to Lunch is a laid-back and soulful funk chart that will get your band groovin' hard in the friendly key of B-flat. The features include a wonderfully melodic head with section trades and brass punches and an effective drum break and short ensemble section leading to the written or improvised solos for tenor sax and/or trumpet. The backgrounds really start to cook behind the soloists, then there's an a cappella section after the solos, then the drummer brings the ensemble into a modulation to F for even more excitement while restating the funk theme that leads to a big finish. Here is the beautiful Herbie Hancock tune in a stellar arrangement by Erik Morales. Creative and sophisticated but not technically difficult. The lead trumpet range is only to written F-sharp top line. There are written solo spaces for tenor sax and piano, wonderful voicings and moving lines. This is a joyous chart from top to bottom. Optional parts are included for flute, horn in F, baritone/tenor sax and tuba. Play this chart, it stands above the rest! One of the first tunes to put the group Chicago on the map was this early rocker from 1970. John Wasson stays true to the original in this outstanding version for jazz ensemble that features solos for alto sax, guitar, and all the signature horn licks.
