Every now and then it comes along, a ballad so hauntingly beautiful that it may just be the highlight of your concert! This is one such gem. Playable with optional reduced or expanded instrumentations, this is sure to be an audience favorite! Don't Forget (Renato's Theme) features a few short moments at the beginning and end for piano, but this chart is really about the ensemble. There is no improvisation, and all woodwind doubles are optional throughout. This great standard gets an easy treatment for young jazzers. It's a straight-eighth ensemble ballad that's played at about 90 bpm with the emphasis focused on melodic playing. A tasteful written solo for trumpet establishes the style in the beginning before the full ensemble develops the chart. Additionally, a swing section offers great contrast and interest. Optional parts for expanded instrumentations include flute, clarinet, horn in F and tuba. As played at around 88 bpm and moving into a double- time bossa section leading into the finale, you'll enjoy every measure of this excellent chart. The solos are only on the written melody for alto saxophone and trumpet with no improvisation. Included is an optional vibes part and optional wind parts for expanded instrumentations.
