For Preview Only 44 SCENE 5 MORRIS: CALEB: MORRIS: CALEB: BULLIES: 11 / 29 It seems strange that a shepherd with such a big flock would worry about one lost sheep! Morris, do you think this story is another one of those – para – para – what was the name you said? PARABA – BA — wait a minute. Maybe I better whisper it to you. (stage whispers) It's a parable. (can't quite hear correctly) Par-a-bull-eees? (BULLIES enter. These are the same "BULLIES" we met in Scene 1, humorous and completely non-threatening.) Did somebody say, Pair of Bullies? CUE "PAIR 'O BULLIES" S.E. MORRIS: Oh no, not again! (MORRIS drops his compass and pulls cape over his head.) They look just like those big, mean bullies at my school! CALEB: BULLY 1: BULLY 2: MORRIS: Um, Morris? They don't look very big and mean to me. Hey! Kid! Hello? Under the blanket? (from underneath cape) What? I didn't do it! BULLY 2: Kid, you dropped something. MORRIS: (peeks from under cape) Hey! Thanks! BULLY 1: No problem. That's an interesting little contraption there. BULLY 2: What is it? MORRIS: Well, it's a sun-powered compass. Which is kind of silly, because compasses work with magnetism. BULLY 1: (Picks up compass, examines it.) Huh. Maybe you're thinking about the wrong kind of sun. MORRIS: What do you mean? BULLY 2: Well, we're in Luke 15, right? Learning about the parables Jesus told? BULLY 1: Maybe this compass is powered by the Son of God. CUE COMPASS SE (S.E. TEAM). CUE LIGHTS. BACKDROP COMPASS NEEDLE MOVES OVER "U"— "SUN" NOW READS "SON."
