Foreword The age-old story of our Lord's birth, retold each year around the world, is made more real, more deeply felt, when experienced within the context of the beloved carols that are woven into the fabric of this season of joy. Of course, there is a fair amount of nostalgia associated with these treasured tunes and texts, as they remind us of the happy times of Christmases past with family and friends, but let not these feelings obscure our primary view as we strive to tread the true path this blessed time of year, refocusing our hearts and minds, as we each in our own way make our pilgrimage to the Babe lying in a manger, and Come Now to Bethlehem. The work open before you includes choral settings of eight well-known carols, all adapted from the organ writings of American composer, organist, choral director, and sacred music editor, Dale Wood (1934–2003), with each title striving to maintain the freshness, life, and creative spark present in the original Wood Works. And on a more personal level, I regard my efforts in arranging these carols as a testament of gratitude to Dale, who was one of my earliest mentors, patiently guiding me in my first published efforts over four decades ago, and teaching me through the years much of what I know and still love about print music.
