Foreword 2 This is The Power of the Cross: through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, we find redemption from sin. Mark Hayess inspired cantata dramatically conveys this awesome transformational power. His musical score serves as a prism through which we view the unfolding events with grateful humility. From this perspective, we know that the cheers that fill the Jerusalem streets will soon turn to jeers; that the faithful disciples who gather with Jesus at the Lords Supper include one who will betray Him; and that, even as Jesus struggles in Gethsemane, ultimately He will surrender to Gods purpose for Him: Your will be done. y Standing before the cross, we listen to Marks haunting arrangement of Twila Pariss Lamb of God and are washed in the blood of Christ. We share the anguish of Mary, the mother of God, in Marks extraordinary mezzo-soprano solo, Pieta, inspired by Michelangelos famous sculpture. And, having borne witness to all of these events, we affirm our faith and acknowledge Gods great love for us with Marks exhilarating arrangement of The Power of the Cross, by Keith Getty and Stuart Townend. O nl The final majestic chorus, Crown Him with Many Crowns, rises from the drama as a joyous acclamation from all who witness the glory of the Lamb. It may be sung with congregation joining the choir for an immensely moving Easter performance, or omitted for performance during Lent and Holy Week. vi ew The Power of the Cross is available in SATB and SAB editions, lasting approximately 35 minutes, and may be performed with two narrators and mezzo-soprano solo. The beautiful piano accompaniment reflects Marks keyboard artistry and expressively underscores the narration. His masterful orchestration offers an added dimension to the drama, with instrumental parts available in both printed form and on CD. As an added bonus, both a split-track accompaniment CD and an SA/TB part-dominant rehearsal CD are available. The Publisher re Contents Companion Products, Vocal Ranges, Production Notes.............................................................. 3 Fo rP When I Survey the Wondrous CrossPrologue Narration and Choir.................................................................................................................. 4 Hosanna Narration and Choir.................................................................................................................. 9 Come to the Table Narration and Choir................................................................................................................ 19 Trust in the Lord Narration and Choir................................................................................................................ 29 Lamb of God Narration and Choir................................................................................................................ 40 Pieta Narration and Mezzo-Soprano Solo..................................................................................... 50 The Power of the Cross Narration and Choir................................................................................................................ 58 Crown Him with Many Crowns Narration, Choir, and opt.
