H The Jazz Police—Gordon Goodwin. This
ferocious chart is totally hot rock-swing-jazz for
the experienced big band, featuring solo space for
tenor, trumpet and trombone or guitar. The lead
trumpet and baritone sax will push this chart over
the top!

Live and Let Die—Paul McCartney/arr. Bob
Curnow. This is a stellar arrangement of the iconic
tune written by Paul McCartney and the title song
from the movie. It was the reason for the great
success of the Stan Kenton album "7.5 on the
Richter Scale." The melody is first stated by alto
saxophone, trumpet and trombone before the chart
roars on! If you're looking for a contemporary chart,
written for the great Kenton band, and based on
a familiar tune, this is the one! This is a newly
updated Finale version.

Mr. Funkyman!—Mark Taylor. Every band needs
a good funk chart to add to its festival or concert
repertoire and Mr. Funkyman! from Mark Taylor
is sure to fit the bill. Using a moderate tempo, the
rhythm section churns throughout as the brass and
saxes provide powerful riffs and punches. This is
also a rare chance for your guitarist to turn loose on
a solo!

l Native Sons—Jeff Jarvis. Want a great chart to
feature an accomplished tenor sax soloist? Native
Sons opens with extended tenor sax cadenzas, then
the rhythm section sets the straight-eighth groove,
as the soloist comes back over ensemble textures
that alternate between staccato and legato styles.
The tenor solo offers opportunities for written and
improvisatory performances while the full ensemble
has equal exposure. A great vehicle for a true jazz
solo presentation!

Night and Day—Cole Porter/arr. Kris Berg.
Kris Berg's contemporary take on this Cole
Porter standard is set in a funky groove played at
around 136 bpm, with the groove going into an
occasional boogaloo feel. The lead trumpet range
goes to written A above the staff, sample solos
are provided for alto and tenor saxophones, and
there are optional parts included for augmented
instrumentations. Plus, the bass part is pretty funky
and don't miss the mellow interlude that builds into
the shout chorus. A very hip chart!

The Old Chief's Lookout—Rick Hirsch.
A movement of a suite yet to be completed, this is
a musical portrait of Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania's
Chimney Rocks a few hundred years ago, when
the land was inhabited by Susguehannock Indians.
It's a straight-eighth ECM chart that's accessible
to high school musicians, but great for pros. It
features improvised solos for soprano saxophone
and dueling trombones and the lead saxophone
part is for soprano throughout.
10881360 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . MA 60.00
The Pink Panther—Henry Mancini/arr. Mike
Tomaro. Inspired by the version of The Pink
Panther recorded by Bobby McFerrin, Mike Tomaro
breathes exciting new life into this Mancini favorite.
Combining a unique shuffle funk groove with
creative orchestrations and the signature riffs from
the original, this is sure to be an effective showcase
for festivals and concerts, or any performance
occasion! Highly recommended!
10522896 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . MA 60.00
Q Ball—Dan Torosian/arr. Paul Baker. Here's a
flashback to the funky 1970s themes of Quincy
Jones and Tower of Power, including optional wah-
wah guitar! Each horn section gets a workout while
the rhythm section percolates underneath. Solo
opportunities are for alto sax, tenor sax, trumpet,
trombone, and drums. The trumpet range is to
written B-flat while the trombone range is to G. It
just cooks and cooks!
10754128 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . MA 50.00
4 Running with Scissors—Gordon Goodwin.
Running with Scissors is a very hip, funky groove
chart played around 168 bpm. It's loaded with
classic Gordon Goodwin flair, plus sample solos
are provided for C instruments, E-flat alto or bari
saxes, B-flat tenor, B-flat trumpet, and trombone.
It begins as a nice, quiet funk groove, develops,
and has great textural variation between the
rhythm section and horns. The lead trumpet
range is to written high C with an optional D.
Included is an auxiliary percussion part and
optional parts for flute and vibes. More accessible
than many Gordon Goodwin charts, your band
and its audiences will totally enjoy this one.
Highly recommended!

Squiggly—Kris Berg. Squiggly is the ultimate
feature for a contemporary guitarist. A quirky funk
melody over a blues chord progression makes
the perfect funk chart for any festival, contest or
concert. The solo space could be for guitar, tenor
sax 1, piano and/or bass. There are no woodwind
doubles and the lead trumpet range goes to F.
Recorded by Kris Berg and The Metroplexity
Big Band on Time Management featuring
Andy Timmons.
10875721 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . MA 65.00
4 Step on a Crack—Rick Lawn. Rick Lawn brings
us a funky take on a stretched-out blues form with
a slippery melody and sophisticated harmonies. All
goes according to plan through the melody and alto
sax solo. A challenging unison brass soli follows
and leads into a unique musical environment where
soloists (one, few, or many) trade two-bar phrases
with the ensemble. This provides lots of room for
experimentation and freedom for the improvisers,
since they aren't limited to a particular harmony
or chord. A brief drum solo returns to the melody
and a gospel-tinged coda. The trumpet range is to
written B-flat with optional high D. A challenging
chart that is well worth the effort, this is one of best
funk charts we've heard! Highly recommended!
10882945 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . MA 55.00
Tell Me a Bedtime Story—Herbie Hancock/arr.
Alan Baylock. Don't miss this great chart that's
an ideal candidate for festivals and contests! It's
a funky, straight-eighth groove on a sensational
composition comfortably laying at about 118 bpm.
The tempo is laid-back, the lead trumpet range is
up to written high D, and a written-out or improvised
solo is for tenor sax, plus there are a few easy meter
changes. This is a winner in every respect!

This Time/Last Year—Kris Berg. This Time/
Last Year is a gorgeous, lyrical Metheny-style tune
in 6/4. Featured are flugelhorn, alto and tenor
on a haunting melody accompanied by plenty of
ensemble power and a "bring the house down"
drum solo. This is truly concert jazz material. The
solos are for flugelhorn and drums along with a
challenging written piano part. There are optional
easy flute doubles and the lead trumpet range
goes to F-sharp. Recorded by Kris Berg and The
Metroplexity Big Band on This Time/Last Year.
