Horace Silver created a blues with a perfectly consistent character and structured the accompaniments and his piano solo in perfect balance. Orchestrating the piano parts from the original recording is a fairly straightforward process. Some thought goes into choosing which instruments best express the music and there's some attention paid to contrasting timbres and textures, but so much of the music already exists in Silver's piano playing, both in his solos and in his accompaniments, that the piece is already there without additional writing. It's a perfect framework that will produce a telling performance. Small Band: ATB Saxes, Trumpet, Trombone, Piano, Guitar, Bass, and Drums. 10757434 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 50.00 Eleventh Hour—Steve Briody. This driving, energetic shuffle with a great groove will keep your players engaged and put a smile on everyone's face. Every horn section gets the melody at some point, there's an awesome sax soli, and a drum solo interlude after the solos. The ranges are reasonable, and the solos are written in the parts for tenor and trumpet but can be opened up to include anyone. Totally engaging and irresistible! 10757052 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 52.00 4 Great Minds Swing Alike—Erik Sherburne. Jazz bands can't swing if they aren't swinging together, and Great Minds Swing Alike is just the chart to prove it! It swings hard right off the top with a sax soli, then a trumpet soli as the melody is passed through the band while the rhythm section digs in with a steady groove. The changes are simple allowing for an open solo section and the brass ranges are modest. Also included is a big time shout chorus and a cool ending. It's a great opener to get the crowd in the mood or a super closer to leave them wanting more! 10882826 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 55.00 Haitian Fight Song—Charles Mingus/arr. Andrew Homzy. Featuring a dark intensity and a powerful unison riff figure in minor, this medium swing chart is a great showcase for your bass player as well as the trombone section. The harmonic structure is quite simple, but the depth of the arrangement comes from the thematic layers that are continually added throughout. Written solo (or soli) sections are included for the trombones and trumpets as well as notated piano voicings and bass lines. The brass ranges are moderate and optional parts are included for flute, clarinet and F horn. Here is an exciting Mingus gem for your band! Highly recommended! 10005180 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 50.00 H Hey Pachuco!—arr. Shane Porter. Your students and audiences will love this burning swing tune made famous by Royal Crown Revue. The groove is set up with a drum solo laying down a Sing, Sing, Sing Krupa feel before the band enters. A trumpet with plunger solo leads into a sax soli section. Next, the trumpet section is featured on a soli section before a half-time feel gives the brass a chance to shine. Returning to the original groove, a written solo for tenor sax heightens the excitement. Finally, there's an open drum solo before the band enters and takes it on home. Pure excitement! 10050989 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 55.00 Hey Pocky Way (Little Big Band)—arr. Eric Richards. What a great chart! 2472224 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 52.00 Hurricane Season—Troy Andrews/arr. John Wasson. From the Trombone Shorty CD Backatown, this tune features the powerful underlying pulse of a New Orleans second line feel along with elements of contemporary rock.
