2 55/1194&95L-2 Foreword The cross of Calvary shows just how far God was willing to go to reach the world with His love. And it shows how far Jesus was willing to go for the redemption of all. God's Word reminds us that Jesus "…..made Himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, and being made in human likeness. He humbled Himself and became obedient to death, even death on a cross." That love has reached millions through the centuries as the story of Christ's sacrifice and triumph has been recounted. This event – the death and resurrection of Jesus – is the cornerstone of our faith. Without it, we have no assurance of a living God; no basis for belief in a Savior; no promise of an eternal future. But because of Christ's willingness to sacrifice His life on a cross and because of His victory over death, we live as people of hope. The gifts of life and love are ours because of the price paid at Calvary. As you journey to the cross through this work, we pray that you, your choir, your church, and your community will be inspired and encouraged by the timeless message of God's sacrifice and love through Jesus. "Greater love has no one than this: that one lay down His life for His friends." —Lloyd Larson and Jay Rouse Production Notes Calvary's Love is flexibly conceived for Lent, Holy Week, or Eastertide programming. Each individual anthem may be presented during the weeks leading up to Easter, or the entire cantata may be performed as a whole in a single worship experience, depending on programming needs. Small and large choirs alike will find the choral writing appealing and versatile. Accompaniment options ranging from piano only to full orchestra with CD accompaniment or live instruments ensures maximum flexibility for your unique programming needs.
