H Sing, Sing, Sing—Louie Prima/arr. Victor Lopez.
Yep, this is the Sing, Sing, Sing you know and
love, made famous by Gene Krupa and the Benny
Goodman Orchestra, only arranged for young
players by Victor Lopez. The classic drum solo
that can be opened up for as much excitement
as the crowd can stand, along with a written-out
tenor solo, reasonable brass ranges and lots of
meaty ensembles keep this great chart exciting. It
will also sound full with reduced instrumentation
or with the optional, non-jazz band parts. It's still
a showstopper! Highly recommended!

4 What Is This Thing Called Love?—Cole
Porter/arr. Paul Baker. First of all, it's Cole Porter,
and secondly it's Paul Baker! This swinger on the
great Cole Porter standard features outstanding
sectional interplay. Every section has solis,
especially the saxes, and there are great tutti
passages for the entire ensemble. Add written
or ad lib solos for trumpet and tenor, a tempo
around 160 bpm, and you have an exceptional
chart. Our highest recommendation!

You'd Be So Nice to Come Home To—Cole
Porter/arr. Paul Baker. Ah, yes, Cole Porter!
Paul Baker has created a quality chart on this
wonderful jazz standard from the Great American
Songbook. It's a crafty swinger at around 168
bpm featuring appealing sections for the full
ensemble, written or improvised solos for alto
and trumpet, a great saxophone soli, and a very
hip interlude that builds right to the end. The lead
trumpet range is to written F-sharp and additional
parts are included for optional expanded
instrumentations. Quality writing in a fine chart
that's highly recommended!

4 America, the Beautiful—Samuel A. Ward/
arr. Chris Sharp. Here is the familiar America,
the Beautiful reimagined as an energetic shuffle.
An a cappella sax soli chorale introduction gives
way to a driving shuffle that continues for the
remainder of the chart. Harmon-muted trumpets
provide extra color in spots. The ranges and
rhythmic responsibilities are moderate, and
there's written or improvised solo space for tenor
sax. This arrangement is appropriate for civic
events, patriotic celebrations or as an interesting
change-up for festival/adjudication program. This
one is really nice!

Bernie's Tune—Bernie Miller/arr. Dave Wolpe.
This swinger features tenor sax 1 and muted
trumpet 2 and is arranged by one of the best,
Dave Wolpe. Featured are excellent written-out
solos for both horns, a superb shout chorus, and
a lead trumpet range hitting a written high B above
the staff. This great chart also features optional
parts for expanded instrumentations. You'll want
this outstanding chart! Highly recommended!

H Better Get Hit in Your Soul (Better Get It
in Your Soul)—Charles Mingus/arr. Andrew
Homzy. Written in a fast 3/4, this gospel-inspired
burner is as fun to play as it is to listen to. There's
great interplay between sections of the band as
layers of sound move in and out. Also included
are hand claps and some "play any note you
want" opportunities to really liven things up. The
flexible solo section allows you to customize this
to fit the strengths of your band. Also included are
optional parts for flute, clarinet and French horn.
Highly recommended!

The Big Beat—Gregory Yasinitsky. As the title
suggests, this is a swinger with hints of classic Gene
Krupa drum patterns. The tempo is around 200 bpm,
there's lots of action for the trombones, written or ad
lib solos for trumpet, tenor, trombone, and drums,
and a huge shout chorus. Add great dynamics,
well-notated rhythm section parts, and options for
augmented instrumentations and you have a chart
that really delivers. Highly recommended!
