Janelle Zook Cunalata. A bluegrass carol for the holi- days! Based on the traditional spiritual, Rise Up, Shepherd, and Follow, this lively carol combines Appalachian folk style with the joy of the season. Students will learn call-and-response form and alternating melody and accompaniment as the tune is passed from section to section. Syncopated rhythms, steady bass line, and old-time fiddle riffs will transport players and audiences to the snowy Smoky Mountains for a winter celebration. Includes violin 3 (viola in treble clef) and alternate viola (violin 2 in alto clef) parts. 10846050 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . VE 42.00 10846051 Additional Score. . . . . . . . . . . . . 5.00 He Ashokan Farewell (from The Civil War)—arr. Calvin Custer. The simple, memorable theme from the acclaimed PBS series makes excellent concert fare. Calvin Custer's realistic treatment includes the easy violin solo, piano and percussion. This is technically quite easy, but very emotional. 2238723 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . ME 54.00 4e Atishbaji (Fireworks)—Doug Spata. An exciting selection with Indian flavor! Fireworks are central to the traditional autumn Diwali celebration, the Hindu festival of lights. Featuring approachable rhythms and notes, this lively and vivid piece also reinforces low-one finger patterns. Represent Diwali at holiday concerts or anytime to add a touch of world music to the concert program. Optional percussion adds even more color and style. Includes violin 3 (viola in treble clef) and alternate viola (violin 2 in alto clef) parts. 10846052 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . E 47.00 10846053 Additional Score. . . . . . . . . . . . . 6.00 He Blue-Fire Fiddler—Soon Hee Newbold. This kickin' fiddle tune is energetic, exciting and fun. The fast and furious fiddling sounds much harder than it really is. Riffs, finger patterns and bowings are very idiomatic and lend themselves to fast playing. This is sure to be the hit of the concert! 2474322 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . ME 50.00 4e Chatter With the Angels (Watching Over Me)—Traditional/arr. Carrie Lane Gruselle. Com- bining two well-known African-American spirit- uals (Chatter with the Angels and All Night, All Day), this arrangement offers the opportunity to swing or play straight eighth notes. Students will perform with confidence as they play familiar rhythms and memorable melodies through colorful and engaging orchestration. 10877031 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . E 40.00 e Danza Latina—Brian Balmages. The ultimate in performance flexibility: you can feature a violinist or violist at the advanced level, or the easy level! Written for a professional Venezuelan-born violist, this work draws inspiration from the passionate dance rhythms of Latin America. Ideal for young orchestras who are interested in featuring a soloist, the piece comes with an advanced viola solo as well as an easier version that can be performed by a violist in your group. The same options are given for violin! Easy percussion parts really add flare, making this the showstopper of your next program. It's a great way to add some sizzle to your next concert! Highly recommended! 10047927 String Orchestra Violin or Viola . . . . . . . . . . . E 60.00 4 Down By The Salley Gardens—Traditional/ arr. Jim Palmer. This beautiful Irish folk song arrangement features a wide dynamic range and beautiful sustained phrases. This piece will challenge your students to find their expressive musical voice. The enchanting melody is supported by rich harmonies and interesting accompaniments. A perfect choice for contest or the concert hall, this piece will make string orchestras of all levels sound full and mature. 10872104 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . E 46.00 El Relicario: Paso Doble—Traditional/arr. Robert Longfield. One of the most famous and best-loved paso dobles ever written in a setting for string orchestra! Fiery rhythms and sweeping Spanish melodies make this an outstanding change of pace for concert or festival performance. 10756566 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . M 40.00 4e Espana Cani—Pascual Marquina Narro/arr. Kathy L. Fishburn. The definitive Spanish paso doble, arranged for intermediate string orchestra! This great cultural teaching piece features syncopated rhythms, triplets, repeated down bows, and easy accidentals in first position. Optional tambourine and castanets add authentic Spanish sound. A fiery concert feature both students and audiences will enjoy. Includes violin 3 (viola in treble clef) and alternate viola (violin 2 in alto clef) parts. 10846056 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . ME 47.00 10846057 Additional Score. . . . . . . . . . . . . 6.00 e Fandango Festival—Victor Lopez. Make your young strings sound like experienced musicians with this high-intensity Spanish-flavored composition. Featuring percussion and a variety of dynamics and articulations, it is exciting and fun to play. With much intensity and bravura, this traditional Spanish dance is a great choice for either festivals or concerts. 10739935 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . E 46.00 e Fantasia on a Theme from Thailand—Richard Meyer. This captivating work is a set of variations on the Pong Lang Dance, one of Thailand's most popular melodies. The pong lang is like a xylophone with its wooden keys suspended vertically on ropes, with the low notes on the upper end and the high notes at the bottom. The melody uses the pentatonic scale and is very simple in nature. The variations expand on fragments of the original tune in a variety of tempi and styles that make each new change thrilling! After this exploration, the original melody returns, gradually gaining speed and energy as one would hear in a traditional performance of this dance. 10015211 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . ME 48.00 He Fantasy on a Japanese Folk Song—Brian Balmages. The haunting Sakura melody moves through stunning and beautiful transformations in this musical fantasy before finally coming to rest. Tonal centers switch between minor and major as traditional melodies intertwine with thoughtful countermelodies and contemporary harmonies. Simply gorgeous! 10366818 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . E 45.00 4 Fiddles at Sea—Traditional/arr. Kathryn Gries- inger. End your first year with three American folk songs about water, each of which is passed around the orchestra. Learning opportunities abound, particularly with the bow and pizzicato. Upper strings use high and low 2s in G and D major. 10882321 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . VE 42.00 10882322 Additional Score. . . . . . . . . . . . . 6.00 e Finnish Folk Song Suite—Traditional/arr. Francis Caravella. The three songs of the Finnish Folk Song Suite were chosen for their common connection to nature. Everyone gets a chance at the melody in this collection of minor key folk songs that are reminiscent of Bartok's Romanian Folk Dances, but much easier to play! 10696532 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . E 47.00 H Folk Tune and Fiddle Dance—Percy Fletcher. A long-time favorite for festival and contest, Percy Fletcher's two-movement suite has been a choice teaching piece for school orchestras. In true English folk style, the first movement has multiple sections in varying styles and meters, and the second movement is rhythmic, energetic fiddle writing at its best. 4964359 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . ME 65.00 4e Inishowen—Sarah Siegler. This engaging piece was inspired by the beautiful scenery of Inish-owen, a peninsula in Northern Ireland. The first move- ment is slow and lyrical, depicting the beauty of standing on the shore, looking at the sea. The second movement is a fun jig, portraying a group of sheepdogs playing in the fields. In the last section, themes from both movements are combined for a powerful finish. 10908677 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . ME 55.00 10908678 Additional Score. . . . . . . . . . . . . 8.00 Japanese Lullaby—Larry Clark. This dramatic music is based on an authentic Japanese folk song Mori no Fukuro (The Forest Owl). This pensive and beautiful tune becomes the inspiration for a truly unique arrangement. Textures change mysteriously as a solo violin and solo cello exchange, melodies, followed by 2 solo violins soaring over pizzicato accompaniment. This builds into the final statement of the folk song with an obbligato in the first violins. Highly recommended! 10013227 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . E 50.00 e Lotus Dance—Kathryn Griesinger. Graceful flower dances are a beautiful part of Asian cultures, illustrated here with a flowing theme in first position. Beginning ensembles will find this work very playable with simple rhythms and melodies based on the D major and G major scales. Exotic pentatonic harmonies and gentle pizzicato accompaniment float like the lotus blossom in an ancient Chinese garden. 10739248 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . VE 48.00 10739249 Additional Score. . . . . . . . . . . . . 6.50 STRING ORCHESTRA 10 MUSIC ON APPROVAL Need time to try it out?
