We are both musicians and composers. We started piano at age eight, guitar at age nine, and have not stopped learning since those days. We would often dig through our parents record collections—either on vinyl or on cassette tape—and sit around the speakers with guitars in hand, picking out the chord progressions, melody, harmonic color, and rhythm. Within a few minutes, we usually had the song roughly constructed. Thus began the lifelong goal of creating, listening, learning, and composing. My "new song" awaits me every day. Sometimes that song finds me best in the middle of the night, when inspiration strikes. Sometimes it wakes me up. But in all cases, my pursuit of "singing a new song" is my most cherished gift and act of worship that I give to God. He is the ultimate creator... and I thank Him for instilling in me a creative spirit. When I compose, arrange, and write music... I feel close to Him. Disc 1 Tom Fettke and Thomas Grassi have arranged Michael W. Smith's celebrated hymn with a classical feel. This marvelous anthem for use throughout the year opens with a regal fanfare that is followed by rich and full vocals that are easily performed by choirs of all sizes. Anna Laura Page and Jean Anne Shafferman Spotlight on Spotlight on 9 I grew up with church music and began playing the piano in church at the age of eleven. I learned to "make up" arrangements of hymns because I did not have many choices in print at that time. As it turns out, that is where I learned to "Sing (through my fingers) to the Lord a new song," and it has followed me throughout my life. I have been blessed with incredible parents, wonderful piano and organ teachers, inspiring mentors, and encouraging editors such as Jean Anne Shafferman who have helped me become the musician I am today. I am thankful. Disc 3 Lord, I'm Coming Home is an inspired match of melody and text. The traditional folk tune is marked by flowing unison moments, while Dvorák's Largo theme is used for the refrain: Coming home, never more to roam, Lord, I'm coming home.
