Anthems from Lorenz To Thy Name Give Praise Mary McDonald 1 General/Ascension Larry Shackley 3 This refreshing setting features unison singing contrasted by full choral sections with brilliant harmonies and is supported by a gentle yet expressive accompaniment. The classic text and singable nature of this piece make this anthem a must-have selection. Disc 1 This dynamic call to worship our Lord by Mary McDonald is full of rhythmic drive and harmonic invention, and it's ideal for general use or a missions/evangelism emphasis. My collegiate experience was challenging at best. Struggling to learn the mere basics of music at that level without having any prior music study made it almost overwhelming at times. Since I played fairly well "by ear," I found serenity in slipping off to the First Baptist Church of Jefferson City on campus and playing the music that I wanted to play, the way that I chose to play it. It was in a quiet third-floor Sunday school room where I opened the hymnal and made up new melodies to hymn texts. During my sophomore year at Carson-Newman College, I took a class in choral arranging. Creating music was not a problem so this quickly became my favorite class! In fact, one arrangement—Rise Up, O Men of God for men's choir—was performed by the CN Men's Chorus while I was a student. After graduating college, I became a church organist. Still struggling to read music, I improvised most of the service music and was challenged by my music minister to write some on paper. Those that I took the time to pen were published via Pedalpoint at the Sunday School Board in Nashville. It never occurred to me at the time that I would someday be a successful composer. I was just writing down the inspiration that was in my heart. In that sense, nothing much has changed. I am so thankful to God for the gifts that He has given and honored to be used by Him for His kingdom's work. Disc 2 Spotlight on 9
