itionally, Nicaraguan mothers sang this lullaby
to their children as they rocked them to sleep.
This up-tempo arrangement is in the style of a
Spanish dance, complete with hand percussion
parts, included in the octavo. The piece is sung
in Spanish, with phonetic pronunciation given
below the text. It's a wonderful multicultural
selection for general concert use and appropriate
for the holiday season as well.

Karen Marrolli. The SATB version of O Pulse of
My Heart received its premiere performance
by Coro de Cmara, the chamber chorus of
Los Alamos and Santa Fe, New Mexico, Karen
Marrolli, conductor, Viera Moore, alto soloist,
Karla Contoupes, violin, Kelvin McNeal, pianist
as part of the program "Visions of New Life," on
November 5 and 6, 2011. The text was written by
the composer as an homage to traditional Irish
love ballads. The soloist for this piece sings the
English text and should have a light and lilting
vocal quality, and the style of violin playing should
have the feel of traditional Irish or Scottish music.
The chorus sings the Gaelic text, for which a
pronunciation guide is provided.

filled with feelings of inadequacy and self-doubt.
The composer explored this topic with middle
school students in a songwriting workshop, and
the students discovered that they are not alone

struggle with these feelings. These students also
discovered that they have the ability to be strong
and find inspiration from within. The music reflects
these moments of discovery with rhythmic forces.
There is a vulnerable honesty in this music, an
honesty that will resonate with young people.
