It���s a medium swing version of a marvelous, often-played standard that opens with an alto and trumpet duet and is filled with tight ensemble punches. More B experienced groups know that a swing chart by Bret Zvacek will be both well written and exciting to play. As this chart demonstrates, he is also adept at writing charts at the medium easy level. This sizzling shuffle chart is a great teaching vehicle. This accessible, melodic blues swinger features nice ensemble passages, written or improvised solos, and gets very exciting in the last chorus. Arranged B in a medium slow Count Basie style, this is a great chart for teaching ensemble balance and laidback swing. It includes plenty of tutti ensemble playing, plus a Basie-like piano solo that���s completely written out. Whether you know this one as C-Jam Blues or Duke���s Place, you sure will recognize all the great Ellington writing! Even the most inexperienced bands can do a fine performance on this jazz classic. The suggested solos are included in the parts for the entire section, so you can make it a soli feature if you prefer. Rick Stitzel. Written by C Jimmy Van Heusen and Sammy Cahn for Frank Sinatra and the title track from his 1958 album, this tune epitomizes the cool sounds of the swing era. Here���s a smartly scored version for young jazz ensembles with modest ranges, but with authentic style. Included is plenty of tutti ensemble playing along with short solos (or solis) for any sax or trumpet. A great way to teach swing, it���s also playable with optional reduced or expanded instrumentations. Included are suggested solos and scale/chord sheets in all keys. Utilizing a bright bebop feel, this chart was inspired by Victor Feldman���s Seven Steps to Heaven, as recorded by Miles Davis. What better way to introduce the music of Duke Ellington to your young jazzers than with this wonderfully scored arrangement by Michael Sweeney! Even at this easy level, this chart really swings and will sound great with limited rehearsal time. Your pianist gets a rare chance to shine as he or she is featured on the melody while the ensemble answers. Later, every section gets to play the melody and there���s a written or ad lib solo for any saxophone. The final section starts softly with saxes alone, then builds as various layers are added. This bluesy, swinging chart is playable with as few as 3 saxes, 2 trumpets, 1 trombone, piano and drums, and all solos have written parts provided. This belongs in every young jazz curriculum!
