7 Scripture: "David said to the Philistine, 'You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I have come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord's, and he will give you all into our hands.'" (1 Samuel 17:45, 47) Close your eyes. Think about the biggest, tallest building you have ever seen. Can you see it? It's so tall it looks like it will touch the clouds. It goes up and up and up into the sky. The building is like a giant compared to houses, cars, and people in the street. In the Bible, David stood up to a real, live giant named Goliath. The Israelites needed someone who was willing to stand and fight against this enormous man. Goliath had fine armor and was a soldier. David, on the other hand, was just a shepherd boy. While Goliath was out fighting in an army, David was taking care of sheep. People laughed when David agreed to fight. He didn't know what he was doing! And David volunteered not just to fight, but to do it without a soldier's armor. No sword. No helmet. No shield. He took only a stone and a sling. But Goliath and the Philistines forgot one important thing: David may not have had experience fighting in an actual army, but he was in the Lord's army, and the Lord's army is all-powerful. God can take anything we have and make it mighty. God gives us courage when we are scared. God shows us exactly what to do when we just don't know what to do. God can take a shepherd boy and help him conquer a giant. When we love God and we have a "giant" problem, we can remember that we have a giant God who is bigger than anything in this world. David didn't have a giant problem because he had a giant God. BIBLE TRUTH
