This arrangement begins with beautiful, flowing unison vocal lines and simple harmonies, then opens up into an exciting syncopated rhythmic section with Korean percussion, divisi, and descant. If all goes well, a dance just might break out in the auditorium during the performance! 10736190 SATB. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . M 2.50 n Eatnemen Vuelie (Song of the Earth)— Frode Fjellheim/arr. Emily Crocker. The opening musical number from the Disney animated feature "Frozen," this song is inspired by indigenous Saami and Norwegian culture, a combination of Saami yoiking and the Danish Christmas hymn Dejlig er jorden, or Fairest Lord Jesus, by B.S. Ingemann. Yoik is a very old vocal tradition among the Saami people of Scandinavia and Russia, characterized by short melodic phrases that repeat again and again, with small variations. With English, German and Norwegian versions of the text, synthesizer, percussion and optional male yoik. 10519311 SATB. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . M 2.50 H Five Hebrew Love Songs—Eric Whitacre. Written by Hila Plitmann and inspired by a trip to Switzerland, each song in this suite is a poetic postcard that captures every lush, romantic moment in full. An expressive and idiomatic collection for mixed or women's choruses. The suite is set for piano and violin, but may also be performed with string quartet. 3296219 SATB. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . MA 3.30 tL Hlohonolofatsa—arr. Daniel Jackson. This tremendously fun arrangement of a South African greeting song exclaims, "Iyo hlonolofatsa, Ka lebitso la ntate," which translates as, "Bless everything in the name of the Father." Featuring a soloist, improvised percussion and hand claps, it is very authentic sounding! Phonetic pronunciation guide is included. 10593326 SATB. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . M 2.55 Ht Indodana—arr. Michael Barrett & Ralf Schmitt. This highly dramatic traditional African song is a true musical gem, presented a cappella at a slower tempo. Arranged by two South African composers, the ethnic flavor is palpable as the upper voices carry the melody and the lower voices provide the harmonic underlay in the SATB version, while the SSA version uses a small ensemble to present the melody with the remainder of the choir providing the harmony. Translation and pronunciation notes are provided. 10457610 SATB. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ME 2.15 t Kodutee (Journey Home)—Part Uusberg. Estonian composer Part Uusberg's Kodutee reflects upon the journey of life from birth to death using vivid imagery of nature and the everyday. Hauntingly beautiful both musically and thematically, this a cappella piece in the Estonian language is appropriate for high school choirs and above. Michael Barrett. A typical greeting in the Zulu culture, this arrangement is written with the call-and-response technique so strongly associated with traditional South African music. The soloists can be male or female and can take their time when performing their parts. The response from the choir "Hololo hololo" is jubilant and may contain ululating and other traditional African noises. Simple hand gestures and waving towards the audience is appropriate. This is a perfect opener and an opportunity for a choir to be walking among the audience as they welcome them. Available for treble and tenor and bass voices. 10765574 SATB. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ME 2.10 n Sililiza (Hear Me)—Jim Papoulis. This ener- getic, uplifting work fuses the rhythms of African, American and Latin cultures, and uses a text primarily in Swahili but interspersed with phrases in Spanish. Supported by shaker, djembe and agogo bells, the middle section has the feel of a cultural celebration, with layers of spoken words that lead us to the understanding, "listen, hear, stand strong." 10308985 SSAA . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2.50 4L Sisi Ni Moja—Jacob Narverud. Ever clever, composer Narverud came up with a highly rhythmic celebratory composition. The title translates "We are one", the theme being that all human beings have much in common. The energetic djembe sets the tone, the piano adds its own rhythmic design, and the singers dramatically deliver the message. 10593109 SATB. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ME 2.25 10776380 SA . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ME 2.20 lt Son de la Vida (Son Veracruzano)—Jose Galvan. This upbeat a cappella piece is truly a celebration. Including vocal percussion throughout, the dynamic rhythms, contrasting sections, interplay between the vocal lines and the text "Therefore, let's enjoy the delicious sound of life!" call each of us to celebrate life while making us want to join the song! Spanish text with phonetic pronunciation and translation given. 10948737 SSATB . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . MA 2.75 n Tshotsholoza (Go Forward)—arr. Jeffery L. Ames. Now available for mixed or men's voices, this rousing arrangement of the popular African freedom song has become a standard in the choral repertoire. With call-and-response vocals, African text, and rhythmic percussion accompaniment, it transports the listener to South Africa, where the song is often referred to as the "unofficial anthem" of the country. It was used in the soundtrack of the Oscar- nominated movie "Invictus," and served as South Africa's "battle call" at the 2010 World Cup. This is essential multicultural programming! Highly recommended! 10276407 SATB . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2.55 n Turn the World Around—arr. Mark Hayes. Harry Belafonte cowrote and recorded this feel- good Jamaican-style piece which is based on the idea that humanity is derived from the three basic elements: fire, water and earth. Set in simple 5/4 meter, it's catchy and fun, especially for younger choirs! 10511031 SATB . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2.50 t Tutakwenda (We Will Go)—Will Lopes. Here is an original celebratory piece in Swahili based on Romans 8:31, carrying the message that we can move forward in life because we know that God is on our side. With solid harmonies, a steady groove, optional choreography and percussion, this piece will enhance programs in school, community and church settings. 10683531 SATB. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Wangol is a voodoo spirit and he is addressed in the song: "Wangol, you are leaving. When will I see you again? The country is changing." The words express the hope of the Haitian people for change and a brighter future for their country, while the music is easy to sing, with a great groove and style, complete with rhythmic percussion and pronunciation guide. 10356999 SATB . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2.55 WORLD MUSIC
