Written as a celebration of singing for racial and social justice, this up-tempo setting is a terrific way for your choir to experience a gospel feel. This powerful work draws its text from the Langston Hughes poem Freedom's Plow, and was written as a prequel to Rollo's piece of the same name. The two pieces can be performed separately or as a set. Really nice! 10862728 SATB. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ME 2.50 n The Ash Grove—arr. Mark Patterson. This gentle setting of the beloved Welsh folk tune features a lilting piano accompaniment and a lovely obbligato part for oboe or clarinet (both parts are included). With some rhythmic variation and extended cadences from the original folk song, this lyrical setting presents all the beauty that the text so aptly describes. With the opportunity to feature a soloist in the opening section, the texture expands from unison and two-part to a rich choral texture with warm, pleasant harmonies. This lovely concert selection presents a wonderful opportunity to teach phrasing and musical expression to developing choirs. 10757127 SATB. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ME 2.35 n Down to the River to Pray (with Bring Me Little Water, Sylvie)—arr. Jennaya Robison. Pavane Publishing is pleased to launch a new choral series under the care of Jennaya Robison. Dr. Robison of Luther College fame is a rising star as a clinician and now an arranger. Her setting of Down to the River unites another American classic of the same genre, Bring Me Little Water, Sylvie. A simple hand drum and hand-clapping provide the percussion. Strong a cappella writing completes this fine arrangement. Easy to medium in difficulty. 10873397 SATB. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ME 2.45 n A Festive Call to Freedom—Joseph Martin. A vigorous Shaker tune takes on fresh purpose when joined with this original patriotic text. A powerful choral that celebrates the gift of freedom and good citizenship! 10343847 SATB. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2.50 n Harriet Tubman—Rollo Dilworth. Capturing the importance of the Greenfield poem and the dramatic story of Harriet Tubman's life, Rollo Dilworth has crafted this powerful spiritual setting. Tubman was a conductor of the Underground Railroad and often referred to as the "Moses" of her people. In recognition of these titles, the work incorporates musical themes from the spirituals If I Got My Ticket and Go Down, Moses. 10558318 TTBB. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2.50 t Homeward Bound—arr. McKay Crockett. After racking up over a million views on YouTube, this unique a cappella stunner by Brigham Young University's Vocal Point and the All-American Boys Chorus is now available for SATB divisi choirs. Contemporary a cappella harmonies and layered choral textures support the soloists during the folk-like verses and full choral refrains. The familiar Holst melody makes a few appearances, and a three-part treble chorus (or descant group) is an ethereal addition at the end. "Bind me not to the pasture; chain me not to the plow. Set me free to find my calling and I'll return to you somehow." Inspirational! 10738914 SSAATTBB . . . . . . . . . . . . . MA 2.35 n Hymn to Freedom—Oscar Peterson/arr. Paul Read & Seppo Hovi. Then, a fully harmonized refrain of America the Beautiful enters as the work nears its grand finish. Especially effective as a concert closer, this accessible piece is a strong choice for any patriotic occasion! "Let freedom ring in our hearts, let love abide.
