SECULAR CONCERT
te Music's Echo—Greg Gilpin. A text by Thomas
Moore provides the inspiration for this innovative
a cappella piece which uses percussion accom-
paniment to create a magical effect! It begins
with a simple melody, then each part joins with
its own melody as the polyphonic singing builds
in a glorious tribute to music. This may be used
as a processional, or it may be sung antiphonally
by two or more choirs. Parts for triangle or finger
cymbals, tambourine, mid/high drum and low
drum are included.

e Never One Thing—May Erlewine/arr. Corie
Brown. Treble choirs will appreciate this
empowering text that invites us all to begin the
process of reclaiming and healing those parts
of ourselves that are, at the same time, both
vulnerable and powerful. This music is modern
and raw with notated parts for body percussion
and cajon. An opening unison a cappella section
sets up the rhythmic feel of these in-your-face
lyrics and style, and the piano joins later to
provide extra support and texture for the stacked
harmonies. Powerful!

Michael John Trotta. This SSAA setting of
a Sara Teasdale text is set completely for
unaccompanied voices. The text, "Peace flows
into me..." is introduced on a single note, gently
expanding to a fuller sonority. The next section
features a straightforward declamation of the
text, followed by a rhythmic ostinato that lays
a foundation for legato vocal lines in the upper
voices. The piece then concludes on the single
note from which it began.
