He Eatnemen Vuelie (Song of the Earth)—
Frode Fjellheim/arr. Emily Crocker. The opening
musical number from the Disney animated feature
"Frozen," this song is inspired by indigenous Saami
and Norwegian culture, a combination of Saami
yoiking and the Danish Christmas hymn Dejlig er
jorden, or Fairest Lord Jesus, by B.S. Ingemann.
Yoik is a very old vocal tradition among the Saami
people of Scandinavia and Russia, characterized
by short melodic phrases that repeat again and
again, with small variations. With English, German
and Norwegian versions of the text, synthesizer,
percussion and optional male yoik.

collection for mixed or women's choruses. The
suite is set for piano and violin, but may also be
performed with string quartet.

Lt In Meeting We Are Blessed—Troy Robertson.
e The use of a djembe imparts a traditional African
feeling to this easy original a cappella work.
The Gatsnahos text, inspired by John Donne,
has a theme of friendship and unity that all can
relate to. "We are met together and in meeting
we are blessed. Peace in coming and in going,
peace in labor and in rest..." This is accessible to
choirs at many levels, and it makes a wonderful
processional!

t Mu Mano Tulge, Latse—Cornelius Becker/arr.
Colton Martin. This is a folk hymn from Estonia,
with a text using a South Estonian dialect. The
text enters the gospel passage of Jesus' words
to "let the children come to me". The arrangement
intentionally seeks to preserve the meekness of
both text and tune, and is suitable for sanctuary
or concert hall.

The Pretoria Youth Choir from South Africa under

music of black and Latinx composers under the
direction of Eugene Rogers. This wonderful work
starts slowly as a prayer, then builds in intensity.
Repeated patterns abound. The djembe part is
notated in the music. A complex yet joyful and
exciting cultural work.

HLTongo—arr. Greg Gilpin. This traditional canoe
te song from Polynesia sounds very impressive
with handclaps and percussion instruments
adding to the choral texture. The echoing voice
parts suggest people communicating from canoe

being human, simply means we need each other,
are made better by each other, and cannot exist
as human beings in isolation. With traditional text
based on this African (Xhosa) philosophy, this

percussion is optional, it will add much to the
