MARIA: No off ense, Angela, but I still think you could have a few things here that let people know it's Christmas. I mean, the name is Hotel Noel, after all. ANGELA: Oh, no off ense taken. And I agree about living up to our name, Hotel Noel. But do you know where the word "Noel" actually comes from? JOEY: I guess I thought "Noel" meant "Christmas." GLORIA: That is the traditional defi nition, Joey. But the word you know as "Noel" actually came from the French word "Noel." And THAT word can be traced back to the Latin word natalis, which means "birth." JOEY: English, French, Latin. Hey, I'm on vacation from school. I don't want a vocabulary lesson. NICK: Young man, you'd better watch your tone or there won't be any presents under the tree for you tomorrow morning. JOEY: Well, apparently there won't be anyway because there's no tree. MARIA: (sad) No tree, no presents, no Christmas. CAROL: (apologizing to the staff ) I'm sorry, they're just really disappointed they won't have a big Christmas celebration to wake up to tomorrow morning. MICHAEL: Who said anything about no celebration on Christmas morning? GABRIEL: Yeah, we celebrate around here, too! And we don't have anything against all those Christmas decorations and traditions. We just really get excited about the Noel part of Christmas. GLORIA: That's right.
