Can We Sing the Darkness to Light?—Kyle
Pederson. The text of this work invites the listener
to imagine a world without weapons of war where
the human experience is defined through the lens
of mercy and compassion. The music is peaceful
and very appropriate to the text with little divisi in the
choral parts and a supportive piano accompaniment.

4t Caritas Abundat (The Great and Fiery Force)
—Michael John Trotta. This work is an energetic
reimagining of timeless text and tune from the 12th-
century poet, composer, and philosopher Hildegard
of Bingen. The marriage of the Caritas Abunda chant
with a text taken from Liber Divinorum Operum (The
Book of Divine Works) creates an entirely new work
that expresses themes of empowerment, especially
the power of belonging to a group united for a
purpose greater than oneself.

Child of Wonder (from "The Sacred Veil")—
Eric Whitacre. The final movement of "The Sacred
Veil", a twelve-movement work written with poet
Charles Anthony Silvestri that chronicles the rich life
of Tony and his late wife Julie, this plaintive piece
serves as a benediction and farewell. Opening in
divisi a cappella harmonies, the piano enters with
a flowing motive to underscore the text "Turn your
silvered sail toward the light ... stretched on ocean
waves of endless foam, welcome home, my child,
welcome home."

lt Circa Mea—Mark Burrows. An interesting take on
a section of text from the medieval Latin "Carmina
Burana." This setting uses modal harmonies, a
haunting melodic line, and transfixing percussion
to express the mysterious nature of the text.

Cloths of Heaven—Z. Randall Stroope. The text is
by William Butler Yeats, an Irish poet. In this setting
the music compliments the words by following the
natural rhythm of the text. Rich in symbolic imagery,
"Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths, Enwrought
with gold and silver light, I'd spread the gold and
silver cloths under your feet: Tread softly, you tread
on my dreams." This piece is on many state and
regional contest lists.

sing. Merrily on high, hear the bells ring. O'er the
earth, they ding dong ding." Now also available in
