Eternal Source of Light Divine—G.F. Handel/
arr. John Rutter. This deeply expressive arioso
opens Handel's Ode for the Birthday of Queen
Anne, which was written circa 1713. It is best
known, more recently, for its use in the royal
wedding of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, Duke
of Sussex. Handel originally wrote Eternal Source
for countertenor, with trumpet and strings, in D
major. In modern times it has been taken into the
soprano repertoire. Mr. Rutter pays homage to this
change in his selection of the keys of C and D flat
in the instrumental offerings. This also reflects the
use of A=415 in the Baroque era.
