Here are some new choral concert selections with themes that can help.
4t Be the Change—Laura Farnell. With a multicultural
flair, this energetic and rhythmic work conveys a singular
force for change. Combining texts from Mahatma Gandhi,
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and Matthew 5:15 with original
lyrics, the piece also incorporates This Little Light of Mine.
An optional divisi descant will challenge younger choirs
while remaining accessible. Optional djembe and shaker

4 Courage Calls to Courage—Emily Crocker.
"Courage has a voice that cannot be silenced." This
piece commemorates the centennial of the 19th
amendment and bases its lyrics on the writings of several

piano part, are contrasted with a more lyrical and

4D You Are My Refuge—Michael John Trotta.
Lt This stunningly expressive a cappella work was
commissioned for vast number of high school choir
programs forced to cancel concerts due to the COVID-
19 outbreak. Inspiring and reflective, the rich harmonies
capture both a sense of poignancy and hope. An optional
descant soars above the choir, adding a sense of
expansiveness: "Your voice brings hope!" Over 200 singers
from five high schools coast to coast learned the piece
separately using part-dominant tracks and recorded their
performances for the virtual choir premiere.
