All the Way Home—Sarah Quartel. This work
was inspired by the Radcliffe Ladies' Choir and
their motto, "Friendship through singing." The
lilting vocal lines are underpinned by a delicate
piano part, and the opening performance direction
"contentedly rocking" describes the overall nature
of the piece: peaceful, content, and easygoing.

Autumn Fires—Mary Donnelly & George L.O.
Strid. Younger choirs will build important choral
skills with this tender setting of a poem by Robert
Louis Stevenson. Alternating between modal and
major key tonality, the part-writing is carefully
crafted, making this an excellent choice for the first
concert of the year!

4 Dover Beach (Tales From the North)—Ashley
Dame & Meredith Tompkins. For unchanged tenor
voices, this piece hints of the drama of the sea with
rolling and weaving melodies in the undulating
piano accompaniment. Effective use of unison, two-
part harmonies, and a descant propel the energetic
and musically charged melodic passages and
motivate young performers to be their very best!

D Everybody Has a Light to Shine (from "The
Lights of Jingle Bell Hill")—Mac Huff &
John Jacobson. Beginning with a slow gospel
swing groove and then transitioning into an
upbeat Broadway-style two beat feel, this upbeat
selection delivers a terrific message. Hand claps
and foot stomps help to engage the singers, and
contrasting musical styles offer excellent teaching
opportunities. Inspirational!

H Fairest Lady—Nick Page. This gentle lullaby
based on a nursery rhyme uses London Bridge Is
Falling Down as a descant over a soothing original
melody and accompaniment. The peaceful moment
is a loving lullaby for a fair little lady whose mother
reassures her that London Bridge will not fall down,
rather it will fly away. Sensitive and touching.

set of three songs specifically written and arranged
to provide quality concert repertoire for unchanged
male voices at the elementary or middle school

include: Through and Through, When I Return and
Together as One.

H Firefly—Andy Beck. Excellent craftsmanship
is apparent in this delightful tone painting as
an accented vocal theme creates the image of
flickering fireflies on a dark summer night. Carefully
selected ranges and intervals, youthfully inquisitive
lyrics, a delicate accompaniment and a whispered
ending all add up to a very special concert feature
for young choirs! Highly recommended!

First Songs for the Emerging Tenor-Bass
Choir—Mark Patterson. A set of three songs
composed specifically for young male singers
whose voices are unchanged or are in the process
of changing from the composer of Heroes and
Vagabonds and other well-known solo collections
for young voices. Each song may be performed
independently in unison, as a solo, or with the
optional second part. Songs include: Come Sail Away
With Me, A Future Shared and Gloucester Moors.

ways can you say "friend?" This sweetly singable
canon uses the word "friend" in 16 different
languages, spanning cultures from six continents.
Presented in unison, two- and three-part canon, this
piece is very easy to teach and extremely effective
to program. A flexible coda at the end offers the
opportunity to include additional languages, allowing
you to customize the piece to reflect the unique
diversity of your choir and community.

H Heart, We Will Forget Him!—Laura Farnell.
Emily Dickinson's haunting poem is beautifully set
over a gently arpeggiated piano accompaniment.
This is ideal for developing voices working on
blend and phrasing, and the poetry is very easy to
comprehend. "Heart, we will forget him! You and I
tonight! You may forget the warmth he gave, I will
forget the light..."

Hope Is the Thing with Feathers—Sarah
Quartel. A skillful setting of an Emily Dickinson
poem. Symbolism abounds as the hope of a bird
is brought to life. The fluttering accompaniment,
interesting harmonies and melodic line all
contribute to the feeling of hope that the bird has
through hardship. A great piece for treble voices!

I Ask for One Day—Jim Papoulis. "I ask for one
day where I don't have to hear about pain, or life
that's lost, I ask for one day where whispers of hope
are alive inside my heart." These words, written
by 5th graders in a writing workshop, moved the
composer to create this inspiring work.

The Lighthouse—Andy Beck. The title of this
piece, though it never actually appears in the lyrics,
provides an overarching metaphor for the text.
The ebb and flow of the piano accompaniment
represents a turbulent sea, while the text presents
themes of strength, guidance, and living by example
in this inspirational choral. Superb voice leading,
along with sweeping musicality and phrasing, make
the warm harmonic twists and turns accessible for
any choir. Expressive and elevating!

imaginative piece will captivate your audience with
the sounds and sensations of a thunderstorm. The

for the moment when the audience becomes part
of the performance. One or more singers, the Rain
Leaders, lead in creating a remarkably realistic-
sounding thunderstorm (using body percussion).
