LIGHT CONCERT easy / medium-easy
One Bow Concerto—Richard Meyer. Your
audience will laugh out loud! A violinist, a violist and
a cellist have soloist seats in front of the orchestra,
and they share just one bow, passing it to one
another just in the nick of time. The orchestra is all
pizzicato, so there really is only one bow. "But a cellist
shouldn't use a violin bow," you think. Right, so they
stop passing it to him and the cellist shows what he
thinks of that! By the end the bow is in the hand of
the conductor. Recommended as a show-stopper!

Rhythm and Blues—Soon Hee Newbold. This
crowd-pleaser shows the fun side of composer Soon
Hee Newbold! Parents and students alike will enjoy
the catchy melody and blues line in the cellos and
basses. There's excellent use of clapping, stomping,
and finger snaps and even a fabulous stereo effect
between sections. The composer leaves ample
time for students to prepare for the clapping, and
snapping their fingers, and even offers alternative
sounds for those who aren't ready to switch from
instrument to sound effects and back again. All the
bases are covered for successful performance!

Rock Bottom Boogie—Robert Longfield.
Robert's new blues shuffle is a fun jazz ensemble-
style tune, that lets your string orchestra perform
something a little different. Easy swing rhythms in a
comfortable key and tempo make it accessible for
most groups. With a little creativity, you might want
to open up a section for a young soloist to stretch
out a bit.

The Sharks of Seville—Traditional/arr. Deborah
Baker Monday. Brimming with intrigue and
suspense, this exciting marriage of themes from
"The Barber of Seville" with an iconic "shark in the
water" motive will keep everyone on the edge of
their seats. All Seville themes have been expertly
adjusted for grade 1 students, and all recurring
shark figures are well-fingered and easy to teach.

H
Spring Breezes—arr. Richard Meyer. Try this
tender folk song from Taiwan to develop your
students' sensitive and lyric style. Accompanied
by lush, modern-sounding harmonies, the melody
is passed to each section. The solos for violin
and cello are at a medium-easy level and are
accompanied by a prominent harp or piano part.
Simply gorgeous!

Uno, Dos, Bass!—Richard Meyer. It's a fiesta
for your basses in this colorful section feature your
students will love putting together. Carefully written
to make your bass section sound their best, this
piece starts with Las Chiapanecas (the famous
Mexican Clapping Song) and segues into a clever
2/4 version of Cielito Lindo. The two songs are then
heard simultaneously, bringing this mini-concerto
to a rousing conclusion.

will definitely motivate all of your players to soar
to new heights! Solo spots are included for cello,

Jay Ungar/arr. Calvin Custer. The simple,
memorable theme from the acclaimed PBS series
makes excellent concert fare. Calvin Custer's

but very emotional.

Three gallant tunes are intertwined to create this
rollicking medley of Western movie themes that

H
Blue-Fire Fiddler—Soon Hee Newbold. This
kickin' fiddle tune is energetic, exciting and fun. The
fast and furious fiddling sounds much harder than it
really is. Riffs, finger patterns and bowings are very
idiomatic and lend themselves to fast playing. This
is sure to be the hit of the concert!
2474322 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . . .60.00
H Blue Rhythmico—Kirt N. Mosier. Like the title
implies, there's a powerful rhythm and some jazzy
blue notes, nothing subtle here! This original uses
guitar-like riffs and a driving ostinato bass line in the
low strings to build up to a powerful sound.
2481200 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . . .45.00
Chicken Foot Transplant—Matt Turner. Put on
your dancin' shoes! This entertaining and infectious
"Bo Diddley" groove offers a smorgasbord of blues,
country fiddling and funk, with added flair by a
drumset. There's even a solo section, which may
be improvised or played as written. Who knew you
could pack so much fun into one short piece?!

composition. With great opportunities for rhythmic
skills, the piece includes hand percussion and
space for haunted castle sounds.

Curse of the Rosin Eating Zombies—Richard
Meyer. The sequel to the popular Rosin Eating
Zombies From Outer Space! Students and directors
will enjoy giving blood curdling screams, knocking
on instruments, and bowing behind the bridge for
that iconic "psycho sound." Pizzicato, tremolo, trills,
munching noises, and zombie-talk are sure to be a
scarily funny hit!
2472802 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . . .56.00
l Dogpatch Reel—Bud Woodruff. Here's a piece

Double Trouble—Lauren Bernofsky. Here's a
punchy teaching tune to make the key of D come
to life! All the voices have fun with the edgy and
rhythmic eighth note "double trouble" motif.
Emphasis on accents and tight ensemble playing
will make this a class favorite!
10091950 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . . .45.00
H Ear-igami—Richard Meyer. Ear-igami is a
fascinating musical tribute to the ancient Japanese
art of paper folding. Instead of a bow, each
performer uses a piece of paper to make sounds
and to "play" their instrument. Your audience will
be entranced as they watch and hear the variety of
effects possible in this charming set of pentatonic
variations. A unique concert selection!
10066927 String Orchestra,
Percussion Optional . . . . . . . .56.00
Emerald Melodies—arr. Samuel Gelfer. With
a blend of Celtic and American fiddle tunes, this
tuneful medley begins with Star of the County
Down in a moderate 3/4 and intensifies with
two Irish jigs, Another Jig Will Do and Coleraine,
in multiple compound meters. Melodies are
passed throughout every section while still having
rhythmically interesting accompaniment parts,
enhanced by the recommended percussion part.
The last section brings it all home in the friendly
fiddle key of D major with Lost Indian, an American
bluegrass standard.
10997972 String Orchestra,
Percussion Optional . . . . . . . .55.00
Fingal's Rock—Felix Mendelssohn/arr. Kathryn
Griesinger. In this modern twist on Mendelssohn's
epic Hebrides Overture, low strings get to dig into
energetic accented bass lines as two prominent
themes weave through the orchestra. This
arrangement is very playable in first position with
a few simple accidentals. Every section of the
orchestra is featured using the same melodic
echoes that inspired Mendelssohn almost two
centuries ago. Includes optional drum set.
10696530 String Orchestra,
Percussion Optional . . . . . . . .47.00
H Folk Tune and Fiddle Dance—Percy Fletcher.
A long-time favorite for festival and contest, Percy
Fletcher's two-movement suite has been a choice
teaching piece for school orchestras. In true English
folk style, the first movement has multiple sections
in varying styles and meters, and the second
movement is rhythmic, energetic fiddle writing at
its best.

Nachtmusik, Trepak from "The Nutcracker."

instrument with recognizable themes from The Pink
Panther, The Flintstones; and Walking Bass Lines.
Then everyone plays together for a medley of movie
themes: Star Wars, Lord of the Rings; Harry Potter
and more!
10050445 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . . .61.00
Jazz Rhythmico—Kirt N. Mosier. This exciting
work allows all parts to enjoy the driving force of a
rhythmico ostinato. The catchy melodic content of

the ever-popular Blue Rhythmico.
10500802 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . . .45.00
La Paloma—Sebastian Yradier/arr. Longfield.

use of pizzicato, easy tremolo and melody moments
for all sections.
10317575 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . . .45.00
